It was the 16th edition of the tournament and part of the WTA International tournaments category of the 2016 WTA Tour. It took place in Rabat, Morocco, between 25 and 30 April 2016.

Players and pairs who neither have high enough rankings nor receive wild cards may participate in a qualifying tournament held one week before the annual Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

Johanna Larsson was the defending champion, but lost in the semifinals to Kateřina Siniaková.

Timea Bacsinszky was the defending champion, but lost in the second round to Catherine Bellis.
