The Northeastern Huskies men's basketball team represents Northeastern University, located in Boston, Massachusetts, in NCAA Division I basketball competition. The team has competed in the Colonial Athletic Association since 2005 and has won two tournament titles, having previously played in the America East Conference, where they won seven tournament titles. The Huskies currently play home games at the 6,000-seat Matthews Arena. Since 2006, the Huskies have been coached by Bill Coen.

James A. Calhoun is a retired college basketball coach. He is best known for his tenure as head coach of the University of Connecticut (UConn) men's basketball team. His teams won three NCAA national championships, played in four Final Fours, won the 1988 NIT title, and won seventeen Big East Championships, which include 7 Big East tournament championships and 10 Big East regular season. With his team's 2011 NCAA title win, the 68-year-old Calhoun became the oldest coach to win a Division I men's basketball title. He won his 800th game in 2009 and finished his NCAA Division I career with 873 victories, ranking 11th all time as of February 2019. From 2018–21, he served as head coach of the University of Saint Joseph men's basketball team. Calhoun is one of only six coaches in NCAA Division I history to win three or more championships, and he is widely considered one of the greatest coaches of all time. In 2005, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

They compete in thirteen varsity team sports: men's and women's hockey ; men's baseball, men's and women's basketball, women's field hockey and volleyball, swimming, and men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's rowing, track and cross-country.

The Duquesne Dukes represent Duquesne University in college basketball. The team, which started in 1914, has only ever played in NCAA Division I and has had six appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Dukes play in the Atlantic 10 Conference, of which they have been members since 1976. Their head basketball coach is Dru Joyce III.

In 2020, CBS Sports ranked Oklahoma State the 25th best college basketball program of all-time, ahead of such programs as Oklahoma and Texas. Oklahoma State men’s basketball has a very rich history of success, having won more national titles and advanced to the NCAA Championship, Final Four, Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen more times than any Big 12 program other than Kansas. The 1986–87 Northeastern Huskies men's basketball team represented Northeastern University during the 1985–86 college basketball season. Led by first-year head coach Karl Fogel, the Huskies competed in the ECAC North Conference and played their home games at Matthews Arena. They finished the season 27–7 overall with a 17–1 mark in ECAC North play to win the regular season conference title. The Huskies one conference loss split two separate 11-game win streaks. They followed the regular season by winning the ECAC North Conference tournament to earn a bid to the NCAA tournament as No. 14 seed in the East region. The Huskies were defeated in the opening round by No. 3 seed Purdue, 104–95.
