Raised in Wainuiomata, Waldrom attended school at St Patricks College Silverstream where he was Head of Sport, Deputy Head Boy and Captain of the 1st XV, which he was in for 3 years. While at college he was involved in the Wellington U16 secondary school B team and the Wellington secondary school A team. He also made the New Zealand secondary school track and field team for 300m hurdles in 1998. After leaving school he was involved in the first ever Wellington Rugby Academy and was selected for Wellington U19, Wellington U21 and Wellington B team.
The older brother of England international Thomas Waldrom, he played for the New Zealand sevens team and the New Zealand Maori. He became an All Black in late 2008, however he never played in a test match,[citation needed] although he did play in the historic rematch against Munster. He played 10 years as a professional starting off with the Wellington lions and represented the Crusaders and Hurricanes before Taranaki and the Chiefs.
Waldrom was forced into retirement due to a broken bone in his foot that required ongoing surgery as he continued playing, injury plagued Waldroms playing career and stopped him potentially playing a lot more at a higher level.
He has since moved into coaching and won the national championship 7s with Wellington before doing an int-rem year with the New Zealand 7s team on the world Series.
Waldrom is currently retired from coaching representative rugby but continues to be involved with his club Avalon as an assistant coach and playing in social vet tournaments throughout the world, he also has a podcast for New Zealand Rugby on their rugby toolbox website.
Conrad Gerard Smith is a New Zealand rugby union coach and former player, who played predominantly at centre. He captained the Hurricanes in Super Rugby, and played for New Zealand from 2004 until 2015. He was a key member of New Zealand's 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cup winning teams. Following the 2015 World Cup he retired from international rugby and took up a contract with Pau in France, before retiring in 2018.

Mark Richard Allen, commonly known as Bull Allen, is a New Zealand former rugby union footballer and TV celebrity, reaching iconic status on the New Zealand sports scene in the 1990s. As well as 19 games and 8 test match appearances for New Zealand, Allen played 110 games for Taranaki and was captain of the inaugural Wellington Hurricanes Super 12 team. He was also captain of the first and short-lived Central Vikings team.
Tasesa James Lavea is a New Zealand rugby union coach and former professional rugby league and rugby union footballer. He is of Samoan and Māori descent and heritage, and he coaches the 1st XV for Saint Kentigern College.
Thomas Waldrom is a former rugby union player who played for Exeter Chiefs in the English Premiership and represented England from 2012 to 2014. Born in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, he qualified for England through his grandmother, winning four caps.
Declan O'Donnell is a New Zealand international rugby sevens player. He made his World Series debut in the 2010–11 season, and became an overnight sensation after he scored three tries for New Zealand during the final of the 2011 Wellington Sevens against England. O'Donnell made his Super Rugby debut for the Chiefs in 2012, but was delisted at the end of the season, and joined the Dunedin-based Highlanders in 2013.
