The UC Riverside Highlanders men's basketball team represents the University of California, Riverside in Riverside, California, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Big West Conference and is led by coach Mike Magpayo. The Highlanders play their home games at the Student Recreation Center Arena. The program had its greatest success as a Division II program, making it to three Final Fours and the national title game in 1995.

In 2020, the future of the program was placed into doubt, as UC Riverside's leadership reportedly began considering cutting the university's entire athletics department in response to financial strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in May 2021, the university announced that they had decided against eliminating athletics and will continue competing at the NCAA Division I level in all sports,^[2]^[3] thus saving the men's basketball program from extinction.

The Big West Conference (BWC) is an American collegiate athletic conference whose member institutions participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The conference was originally formed on July 1, 1969, as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA), and in 1988 was renamed the Big West Conference. The California Baptist Lancers men's basketball team represents California Baptist University in the Western Athletic Conference. The team made the jump into Division I basketball on July 1, 2018. They are currently led by head coach Rick Croy and play at the Fowler Events Center, which opened in 2017 and replaced the Van Dyne Gym. The men's basketball program was ineligible to play in the NCAA Division I Tournament during their transition period, although they were eligible for other tournaments such as the College Basketball Invitational. The 2022-23 season was the 1st season the Lancers were eligible for the NCAA tournament.

The 2018–19 UC Riverside Highlanders men's basketball team represented the University of California, Riverside in the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Highlanders, led by first-year head coach David Patrick, competed at the SRC Arena. UC Riverside was a member of the Big West Conference, and participated in their 18th consecutive season in that league.

The 2019–20 UC Riverside Highlanders men's basketball team represented the University of California, Riverside in the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Highlanders, led by second-year head coach David Patrick, played their home games at SRC Arena in Riverside, California as members of the Big West Conference. They finished the season 17–15, 7–9 in Big West play to finish in sixth place. They were set to be the No. 6 seed in the Big West tournament. However, the Big West tournament was canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
