Overview

Eighteen teams participated, and Trabzonspor won the championship. Trabzonspor have not won a league title until the 2021–22 season. This season was the first season in which no İzmir team took part in the league.

The 2002-03 Süper Lig was the 45th edition of top-flight professional football in Turkey. The season celebrated the centenary of Beşiktaş J.K., who became eventual champions. Moreover, Malatyaspor qualified for the first time in a European cup competition after a 2–0 away win at Turkish Cup winners Trabzonspor combined with Fenerbahçe's draw at İzmir with relegated Göztepe, 1–1, despite being ahead in the first half. They are the first team from Eastern Anatolia to play in UEFA competitions.

The 2001–02 Süper Lig was the 44th edition of top-flight professional football in Turkey. Galatasaray S.K. became champions for the 15th time. Turkish First Football League was renamed as Turkish Super League in this season.

The 2009–10 Süper Lig was the 52nd season since its establishment. The season commenced on 7 August 2009 with Istanbul B.B. hosting defending champions Beşiktaş at Atatürk Olympic Stadium. The last matches were played on 16 May 2010.

The 2009–10 Fenerbahçe S.K. season was the club's 102nd season in its history and its 52nd consecutive year in the Süper Lig since its establishment. The season covered a period from July 2009 to June 2010. Having finished fourth in the Süper Lig the previous season, Fenerbahçe qualified for the rebranded UEFA Europa League third qualifying round and for the group stage of the rebranded Turkish Cup, the Ziraat Turkish Cup.

The 2008–09 season was Beşiktaş' 105th football season. Also it was the 50th year of the Süper Lig. Beşiktaş won the domestic double of the league title and cup.

The 1991–92 season was the club's 34th season in the Turkish First Football League. It was also one of the club's most successful seasons. They won the Turkish First Football League for the 10th time in team history and their 3rd consecutive title setting a franchise record, as well as a shared league record then, however Galatasaray broke this record 8 years later by winning 4 consecutive titles (1996–2000). Beşiktaş set another league record by finishing the league undefeated, with 23 wins, 7 draws and 0 losses. They also continued their record setting unbeaten streak from last year making a total of 35 games unbeaten. Also a league record. The team was considered "legendary" due to all the milestones achieved that season. In the Turkish cup, Beşiktaş defeated Aydınspor 1-0 in the quarterfinals, but lost to Trabzonspor 1-2 in the semifinals. Trabzonspor would go on to win the cup. By finishing 1st last season Beşiktaş also qualified for the European Cup. In the first round they were eliminated by PSV Eindhoven 2-3. Beşiktaş played Trabzonspor for the Presidents Cup, after a loss to Trabzonspor in the semifinals of the Turkish cup, the team redeemed itself by defeating Trabzon 2-1. Beşiktaş missed the TSYD Cup by 3 points. They beat Fenerbahçe 4-1 but lost to Galatasaray 2-3.

The 2010–11 season was Trabzonspor's 36th consecutive season in the Süper Lig.

The 2017–18 Süper Lig, officially called the Spor Toto Süper Lig İlhan Cavcav season, was the 60th season of the Süper Lig, the highest tier football league of Turkey. The season was named after İlhan Cavcav, the longtime chairman of Gençlerbirliği S.K.

The 2019–20 season was Trabzonspor's 52nd year in existence. In addition to the domestic league, the club participated in the Turkish Cup and the UEFA Europa League.
