The 1959 Turkish National League was the first season of the professional nationwide league in Turkey, known as Süper Lig today. The first season consisted of 16 clubs split into two groups: the Kırmızı Grup and Beyaz Grup, the colours of the Turkish flag. The first season took place in the calendar year of 1959, instead of 1958–59, as the qualifying stages took place in 1958.

The 2002-03 Süper Lig was the 45th edition of top-flight professional football in Turkey. The season celebrated the centenary of Beşiktaş J.K., who became eventual champions. Moreover, Malatyaspor qualified for the first time in a European cup competition after a 2–0 away win at Turkish Cup winners Trabzonspor combined with Fenerbahçe's draw at İzmir with relegated Göztepe, 1–1, despite being ahead in the first half. They are the first team from Eastern Anatolia to play in UEFA competitions.

The 2000-2001 Turkish First Football League was the 43rd edition of top-flight professional football in Turkey. The season saw many turning points for different teams. Galatasaray, the team that dominated the last decade and won the UEFA Cup, lost the title to Fenerbahçe SK for the first time in five seasons. Fenerbahçe reached to success with Mustafa Denizli, the first Turkish manager to win the league for Fenerbahçe. Southeastern side Gaziantepspor fought for the title for a long time during the season under the manager Erdoğan Arıca and Sakıp Özberk. They lost their hopes for title, when, in the 29th fixture, Fenerbahçe SK defeated them 4-3 at Şükrü Saracoğlu. Gaziantepspor were 3-0 ahead in the half-time.

The 1962–63 Turkish National League was the fifth season of professional football in Turkey and the last year the top division in Turkey was named the Turkish National League. With the creation of the 2.Lig in 1963–64, the top-flight football division in Turkey would be re-branded as the 1.Lig. Galatasaray won their second league title.
