Andries Carl Nel is the Deputy Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the Republic of South Africa. He was the Deputy Minister for Constitutional Development from May 2009 until 9 July 2013 and has been a member of Parliament for the African National Congress (ANC) since 1994.

Education

Nel holds a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Pretoria.

Political career

Mr Nel served as Whip of Portfolio Committee on Justice and House Whip from 2000 to 2002. Between 2006 and 2007 he served as Acting Chief Whip of the African National Congress (ANC) and as a Chairperson of House of the National Assembly between 2008 and 2009.

He has served as Deputy Chief Whip of the ANC from 2002 to 2008, a member of Portfolio Committees on Justice and Constitutional Development, Correctional Services, Health, Home Affairs, Communications, and the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA). He has also served in various Ad hoc committees as well as internal parliamentary committees such as the Rules, Joint Rules and Programme Committees, the Chief Whips' Forum and Parliamentary Oversight Authority.

Mr Nel has been involved in the National Union of South Africa Students, South African Student Press Union, Students for a Democratic Society, Students for Human Rights and the End Conscription Campaign. He was active in politics since high school in São Paulo, Brazil.

He has also served on the Constitutional Assembly Committee dealing with the judiciary and legal system and was a Co-ordinator of the Legal and Monitoring Team and ANC National Elections Team.

Mr Nel was a member of the National Executive Committee of the ANC Youth League from 1996 to 2001; Co-ordinator of the Lawyers for Human Rights' Capital Punishment and Penal Reform Project from 1990 to 1994 and a member of ANC structures at the branch and regional level in the Pretoria area.

Dipuo Peters South African politician

Elizabeth Dipuo Peters was the Minister of Transport of the Republic of South Africa until 30 March 2017, in the Zuma administration, and former Minister of Energy from 2009-2013 having served as successor to Manne Dipico as the second Premier of the Northern Cape Province, 22 April 2004 to 10 May 2009. A member of the African National Congress (ANC), she serves on the Women's League National Executive Committee. Dipuo Peters resigned as a member of parliament for the African National Congress in April 2017.

Cedric Thomas Frolick, is the current House Chairperson: Committees, Oversight and ICT in the National Assembly of Parliament for the Republic of South Africa. A teacher, politician, anti-apartheid activist. He retired from teaching in 1999 and subsequently became a politician in the National Assembly. On 18 November 2010, the ANC appointed him as the House Chairperson responsible for Committees, ICT and Oversight.

A controversial figure, Zwane became the Minister of Mineral Resources on 23 September 2015 after succeeding Ngoako Ramathlodi. Zwane is also a member of Portfolio on Small Business Development and a Member of Portfolio on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Zwane resigned on 25 February 2018 following allegations of state capture and in particular his role in the Vrede dairy farm, which helped bankroll the Gupta family wedding.

Kopeng Obed Bapela is a South African politician who is currently serving as the Deputy Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the South African Government in the cabinet of Cyril Ramaphosa. Bapela is also the husband of the former City of Johannesburg Council Speaker, Constance Bapela.

27th South African Parliament Current session of South African Parliament

The 27th South African Parliament is the sixth Parliament of South Africa to convene since the introduction of non-racial government in South Africa in 1994. It was elected in the general election of 8 May 2019 and consists of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces. The National Assembly contains 400 members, while the National Council of Provinces contains 90 members. It was formally opened by President Ramaphosa's State of the Nation Address in a joint sitting on 20 June 2019.

Barbara Creecy South African politician

Barbara Dallas Creecy is a South African politician and previous anti-apartheid activist. A member of the African National Congress, she is currently serving as Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa. Ronald Lamola South African lawyer and politician

Ronald Ozzy Lamola is a South African lawyer and politician, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, and a member of the African National Congress (ANC). He has also been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 22 May 2019. He is a member of the ANC's National Executive Committee and National Working Committee. Nqabayomzi Lawrence Saziso Kwankwa is a Xhosa South African politician from the Eastern Cape. He has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the United Democratic Movement (UDM) since August 2013. He is the deputy president of the UDM and the party's chief whip.
