David Woobay (born in Taimede Chiefdom, Moyamba, Moyamba District) is a Sierra Leonean politician and a member of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP). He is a retired civil servant who served as the Director of Sports. He later on retirement became the first elected Moyamba District Council Chairman in 2004. He was re-elected to the same office in 2008 with 84% approval rating. David Woobay is a member of the Mende ethnic group. A foundation in his name was established to promote girl-child education in Moyamba District.

Ella Koblo Gulama OBE, GCOR was a Sierra Leonean paramount chief and politician. In 1957, she became the first elected female Member of Parliament in Sierra Leone and all of Sub-Saharan Africa. She was re-elected in 1962. During the government of Milton Margai, Gulama became Sierra Leone and sub-Saharan Africa's first female Cabinet Minister.

Gbangbatoke is a small town in Moyamba District in the Southern province of Sierra Leone. The town is best known for being the birthplace of two of Sierra Leone's most prominent politicians, Sir Milton Margai and Sir Albert Margai. The population of Gbangbatoke is predominantly from the Mende ethnic group, and the Mende language is widely spoken.

Shenge is a coastal fishing town along the Atlantic ocean in Moyamba District, Southern Province, Sierra Leone. Shenge is the seat of the Kagboro Chiefdom, part of the third level of administration. The dense coastal jungle has prevented development of a good road network, and the Shenge is still most easily reached by boat. The local small fishing and passenger boats that travel among the coastal towns are known as pampas in Sierra Leone.
Richard Canreba Caulker (18??–1901), also known as Canrah Bah Caulker, was ruler of the Bumpe Chiefdom, 1864–1888 and 1894–1901. This area became incorporated into the Sierra Leone Protectorate in 1888, and is now part of the Moyamba District of the independent Sierra Leone nation.
