The 5th Annual MTV MIAW Awards were held on June 3, 2017 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, and was broadcast on June 4, 2017 through MTV Latin America. The awards celebrate the best of Latin music and the digital world of the millennial generation. The ceremony was hosted by Lele Pons and Juanpa Zurita. [1] [2] J Balvin and Sebastián Yatra led nominations with five each, while Lali was the biggest winner of the night, with two awards. Furthermore, Lady Gaga received the UNHCR's Change Agent Award.

Juan Pablo Martínez-Zurita Arellano, commonly known as Juanpa Zurita, is a Mexican social media influencer, vlogger, actor and model. He became known in 2013 through making comedy videos on the Vine app. Later, he diversified his activities by publishing vlogs and entertainment videos on the YouTube platform, and most recently he started his own water company in the middle of a drought, exploiting the resources of his own country. He created various campaigns in favor of humanitarian aid, in one of which he raised 25 million Mexican pesos through donations to make houses to several victims of an earthquake in Mexico City, in September 2017. "Downtown" is a song by Brazilian singer Anitta and Colombian singer J Balvin fully sung in Spanish, despite its title being in English. The 31st Premio Lo Nuestro ceremony was held on February 21, 2019. Univision broadcast the show live from the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, Florida. Mexican-American TV presenter, Alejandra Espinoza, Mexican singer and actress Maite Perroni, and American singer Victor Manuelle hosted the ceremony.

The 7th Annual MTV MIAW Awards took place on June 23, 2019 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. It was broadcast live by MTV Latin America. The awards celebrated the best of Latin music and the digital world of the millennial generation. The list of nominees were revealed on May 6, 2019. Leading the list of nominees were J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Paulo Londra with five nominations each and Anitta with three nominations under her belt.
