<span class="mw-page-title-main">Omega (band)</span> Hungarian rock band

Omega was a Hungarian rock band formed in 1962, which has been described as the most successful Hungarian band in history. They have released more than 20 albums both in Hungarian and English. After several early personnel changes, their classic lineup came together in 1971 and was intact for more than forty years. Singer János Kóbor was with the band continuously from 1962 until his death in 2021; keyboardist/singer László Benkő was present from 1962 until his death in 2020. Guitarist György Molnár and bassist Tamás Mihály joined in 1967, and drummer Ferenc Debreczeni joined in 1971. Omega won several prestigious awards for their contributions to Hungarian culture.

Márton Gyöngyösi is a Hungarian politician, who has been the leader of the political party Jobbik since 2022. He was a Member of Parliament from 2010 to 2019. He was the leader of the Jobbik's parliamentary group from 2018 to 2019. He was elected a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) in the 2019 European Parliament election, as a result he resigned from his seat in the national parliament.

Nemzeti Dohánybolt is a state-owned store responsible for all legal sales of tobacco within Hungary. The company responsible for running the stores, Nemzeti Dohánykereskedelmi Nonprofit Zrt, was founded in 2011 after the Second Orbán Government passed laws intended to curb the sale of tobacco.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">András Fekete-Győr</span> Hungarian politician

András Fekete-Győr is a Hungarian activist, lawyer and politician. He was the inaugural leader of the Momentum Movement party from 2016 to 2021. Fekete-Győr became a nationally known political figure, when he led the successful NOlimpia campaign against the Budapest bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics, which was one of the first major blows for the national conservative government of Fidesz and its leader Viktor Orbán, who governs the country with a two-thirds majority since 2010.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Momentum Movement</span> Political party in Hungary

Momentum Movement is a centrist Hungarian political party founded in March 2017. It came to national prominence as a political association in January 2017 after organizing a petition about the Budapest bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics, calling for a public referendum on the matter. The petition, which gathered over 266,151 signatures, was successful, but the government cancelled the Olympic bid before a referendum could have been held. After its establishment as a political party, Momentum quickly built a national following, and presently has approximately 4,000 members. Momentum party candidates appeared on the ballot in most electoral districts in the 2018 Hungarian parliamentary election, promoting the replacement of the government of Viktor Orbán and advocating a new generation of political change in the country. The party obtained 3.06% of the votes, failed to reach the 5% threshold and did not get any seats in the National Assembly, but in the 2022 Hungarian parliamentary election it ran under the list of the United for Hungary and entered parliament for the first time with 10 MPs.

Origo is a major Hungarian-language news website founded in 1998 by telecommunications company MATÁV. In 2018, Origo was the third most visited Hungarian website. Since 2015, Origo has been regularly criticised for its uncritical support of the Fidesz political party and regularly spreading fake news. Some critics describe the website as "state-run propaganda".

Lőrinc Mészáros is a Hungarian businessman, and former politician, who served as Mayor of the Hungarian village Felcsút between 2011 and 2018. With an estimated wealth of 436 billion forint ($1.3 billion) as of 2022, he is, according to Forbes, the third richest person in Hungary. Several media outlets refer to him as "oligarch".

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2021 Hungarian opposition primary</span> Hungarian opposition primary for the 2022 parliamentary election

An opposition primary was held in Hungary, between 18–28 September 2021 and 10–16 October 2021, to select the candidate for Prime Minister of Hungary supported by the opposition parties to form a coalition to compete in the 2022 parliamentary election. It was the first countrywide primary election in the political history of Hungary. The parties had also selected common candidates for single-member districts via the primary.

Telex is a Hungarian news portal. It was announced on 4 September 2020 by editor in chief Veronika Munk. The site is published by Van Másik Kft., which is owned by Márton Kárpáti. Both Munk and Kárpáti were deputy editors in chief of Index.hu until July 2020.

The Solution Movement is a political party founded in 2021 led by entrepreneur György Gattyán. The party was formed for the 2022 Hungarian parliamentary election, in which it did not win any seats.

Ferenc József Gelencsér is a Hungarian politician, member of the National Assembly, and leader of the Momentum Movement party since 2022.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Erik Keszthelyi</span> Insurance professional, businessman

Erik Keszthelyi is a Hungarian economist and owner of Hungarikum Biztosítási Alkusz, the largest Hungarian-owned insurance broker, which also owns a majority stake in CIG Pannonia. He is also the 47th richest person in Hungary as of 2023.

Events in the year 2024 in Hungary.

The 2024 Budapest mayoral election will be held on 9 June 2024 to elect the mayor of Budapest (főpolgármester). However, the elected mayor will only take office in October. On the same day, local elections were also held throughout Hungary, including the districts of Budapest which will determine the composition of the General Assembly. The election is run using a first-past-the-post voting system. The winner of the election will serve for a term of five years.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Dávid Vitézy</span> Hungarian economist and politician

Dávid Vitézy is a Hungarian economist, transport and urban mobility expert, politician, who served as Secretary of State for Transport in the Fifth Orbán Government for a brief time from May to November 2022. He is a candidate for Mayor of Budapest in the 2024 Budapest mayoral election.
