Abia State House of Assembly is the legislative arm of the Abia State Government. [1] It is a unicameral body consisting of 24 members elected into 24 state constituencies and presided by a Speaker. [2] The age of voting is 18. [3]

Abia State is a state in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, it is bordered to the northwest by Anambra State and northeast by the states of Enugu, and Ebonyi, Imo State to the west, Cross River State to the east, Akwa Ibom State to the southeast, and Rivers State to the south. The 6th Abia State House of Assembly Ended on 6 June 2019 after the House Valedictory Session Presided over by the Former Speaker Rt. Hon Chikwendu Kalu. Formed after an election in April 2015 and inaugurated on 11 June 2015, the Representatives of the Assembly were elected from 24 constituencies with the majority being members of the People's Democratic Party. The last elected Speaker was Chikwendu Kalu representing Isiala Ngwa South Constituency.

Sir Ude Oko Chukwu is a Nigerian accountant and politician who served as the deputy governor of Abia State from 2015 to 2023. He previously served as the speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2015 and as member of the Abia State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2015.

He had previously served as a Member of the House, representing Isiala Ngwa North Constituency. He was succeeded as Speaker by Kennedy Njoku following his impeachment by members of the House.

The 7th Abia State House of Assembly was Inaugurated on Monday 10 June 2019 after a Proclamation by the Abia State Governor Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu. Formed after the Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections of Saturday 9 March 2019 and inaugurated on Monday 10 June 2019, the Representatives of the Assembly were elected from 24 constituencies with the majority being members of the People's Democratic Party. The elected Speaker is Chinedum Orji representing Umuahia Central State Constituency.

Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji is a Nigerian politician and former member of parliament who represented Umuahia Central State Constituency. He served as the 11th Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly since June 10, 2019 till June 10, 2023. He was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly on the 10th of June, 2019 during the Inauguration of the 7th Abia State House of Assembly.

The 2023 Abia State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Abia State, concurrent with elections to the Abia State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP governor Okezie Ikpeazu was term-limited and could not seek a third term. Alex Otti, a banker, gained the office for the Labour Party by a margin of victory over first runner-up and PDP nominee—Okey Ahiwe, the former Chief of Staff to Ikpeazu.

On 11 March, the election for Governor of Abia State will be held alongside elections to the state House of Assembly. Local government elections are scheduled for 28 April.

Kelechi Onuzuruike is a Nigerian politician. He is the Former Deputy Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly. He formerly represented Umuahia North state constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly.

Emeruwa Emmanuel is a Nigerian politician currently serving as the speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly. He is elected from Aba South state constituency.
