Alan Wilder (born September 24, 1953) is an American former actor who has appeared on film and television. Alan is also a member of the Steppenwolf Theater Company. He has appeared in over 55 Steppenwolf productions.

Steppenwolf was an American-Canadian rock band that was prominent from 1968 to 1972. The group was formed in late 1967 in Los Angeles by lead singer John Kay, keyboardist Goldy McJohn, and drummer Jerry Edmonton, all formerly of the Canadian band the Sparrows. Guitarist Michael Monarch and bass guitarist Rushton Moreve were recruited via notices placed in Los Angeles-area record and musical instrument stores.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is a Chicago theatre company founded in 1974 by Terry Kinney, Jeff Perry, and Gary Sinise in the Unitarian church on Half Day Road in Deerfield, Illinois and is now located in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood on Halsted Street. Its name comes from the 1927 novel Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse, which original member Rick Argosh was reading during the company's inaugural production, And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little, in January 1974. After occupying several theaters in Chicago, in 1991, it moved into its own purpose-built complex with three performing spaces, the largest seating 550.
