Alexa Curtis (born 4 January 2004) is an Australian singer, songwriter and actress. She won The Voice Kids Australia as part of Delta Goodrem's team in 2014, and subsequently signed with Universal Music Australia. [1] Curtis represented Australia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016, where she placed fifth with 202 points. [2]

Early life

Curtis was born on 4 January 2004 to her New Zealand parents. She has an older brother, Aidan. Two years before she was born, her family originally lived in Auckland, New Zealand, before relocating to Australia in 2002. [3] She won The Voice Kids Australia in 2014 and was signed with Universal Music Australia.

Career

Acting

In 2021, Alexa gained the lead role as Taylor Young in Rock Island Mysteries, a 20-part adventure/drama series which was shot on the Gold Coast, Queensland. A joint collaboration between Fremantle Australia and Nickelodeon. It premiered on 2 May 2022, on 10 Shake and 10 Play. It will air on Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand from June 2022 and global audiences on Nickelodeon International later in the year. In 2019 Alexa played a supporting role as Jordan in the locally-shot movie Swimming for Gold.

Singing

In 2014 Alexa was a contestant on The Voice Kids. While all chairs turned, she chose Team Delta. She made it to the grand final where she won. Alexa appeared twice in the 2014 Schools Spectacular, first performing with her Voice Kids co-stars, then duetting with The Voice winner Anja Nissen. The same year she performed with a small group of The Voice Kids at Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight. In 2015 and 2016 she performed as a featured artist at the Brisbane IGA Lord Mayor's Christmas Carols. In 2016 she sang the opening theme song for six episodes of The Powerpuff Girls on Cartoon Network Australia.

Alexa represented Australia in the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The song she sang was called "We Are". She finished in fifth place with 202 points. In 2020 Alexa released her first single 'Overflow' with music and lyrics 100% owned by her. It was independently released.

Ukraine participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Ukrainian broadcaster NTU selected their entrant through a televised national final. The semi-final took place on 25 July 2015. Fourteen acts competed in the televised final on 22 August 2015. Anna Trincher and her song "Pochny z sebe" were later declared the winners and represented Ukraine. Ukraine finished in 11th place with 38 points.

Australia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest five times between 2015 and 2019. Bulgaria participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016. Their entrant was selected through the televised national selection "Decata na Bulgaria sa super", organised by the Bulgarian broadcaster Bulgarian National Television (BNT). Lidia Ganeva won the national selection and she got the right to represent Bulgaria in the contest. Ganeva performed the song "Magical Day " at the contest.

Russia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. The Russian broadcaster Russia-1, owned by the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Sofia Fisenko won the national final on 16 August 2016 with the song "Zhivaya voda". On 6 October, the Russian organisation team opted to change the name of the entrant to Water of Life Project, with the song also changing to "Water of Life".

The Netherlands participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place in Valletta, Malta on 20 November 2016. The Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS, was responsible for the organisation of their representative at the contest. The band, Kisses, a trio consisting of three girls: Kymora, Stefania and Sterre, were chosen internally by the Dutch broadcaster on 27 May 2016. Kisses performed their song "Kisses and Dancin'".

A national final, which took place on 25 August 2017, saw ten competing acts participating in a televised production where the winner was determined by a 50/50 combination of votes from a jury made up of music professionals and a public telephone vote. Helena Meraai won the national final by receiving the most votes from both the professional jury and televoters and she represented Belarus in Georgia with the song "I Am The One".

The Australian broadcaster ABC is responsible for choosing their entry for the contest. Isabella Clarke was internally selected to represent Australia in Georgia. Her song for the contest, "Speak Up", was revealed on 7 October 2017.

Australia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk, Belarus. The Australian broadcaster ABC was responsible for choosing their entry for the contest. Jael was internally selected to represent Australia in Belarus.

Roksana Emilia Węgiel, also known as Roxie, is a Polish singer who rose to fame in her native country after winning season one of the Polish version of The Voice Kids in 2018. Valentina Tronel, known as simply Valentina, is a French teenaged singer best known for winning the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020. Since 2018, she has been part of the child musical group Kids United Nouvelle Génération, with whom she has recorded the albums Au bout de nos rêves (2018) and L'Hymne de la vie (2019). She represented France in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song "J'imagine", and went on to win the competition, becoming the first French entrant to win the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

Portugal competed in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Paris, France, on 19 December. Portuguese broadcaster RTP is responsible for the participation, and selected Simão Oliveira to represent the country, after he won the second season of The Voice Kids Portugal.
