Padonkaffsky jargon or Olbanian is a cant language developed by a subculture of Runet called padonki. It started as an Internet slang language originally used in the Russian Internet community. It is comparable to the English-based Leet. Padonkaffsky jargon became so popular that the former President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev jokingly suggested that Olbanian be taught in schools.

Runet, a portmanteau of ru and net/network, is the Russian-language community on the Internet and websites. The term Runet was coined in Israel in the spring of 1997 by an Israeli resident and Russian-language speaker from Baku, Azerbaijan, blogger Raffi Aslanbekov also known in Russia as Great Uncle, an author of the online column Great Uncle's Thoughts. Runet was popularized by early Internet users and was included in several dictionaries, including the spelling dictionary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, edited by V. V. Lopatin in 2001.

The Ulmart company was a leading Russian private online retailer focused on e-commerce. The company was founded in 2008 and headquartered in Saint-Petersburg. Ulmart was leading Russian e-trade in 2013 by revenue and one of the biggest Russian internet companies. It filed for bankruptcy in January 2020, then liquidated its assets and shut down operations on March 1, 2020.

Yandex Mail is a Russian free email service developed by Yandex. It was launched on June 26, 2000, and is one of the three largest email services in Runet. The service uses automatic spam filtering, checks for viruses using antivirus software from Dr.Web, and an email translator.
