Anambra State is a Nigerian state, located in the southeastern region of the country. The state was created on 27 August 1991. Anambra state is bounded by Delta State to the west, Imo State and Rivers State to the south, Enugu State to the east and Kogi State to the north. The State Capital is Awka, while the State’s Largest City is Onitsha which is regarded as one of the largest metropolis area in Africa.
Aguata is a Local Government Area in Anambra State in Nigeria, with its headquarters in Aguata, a major part of which falls into Aguluezechukwu, while the smallest part falls within the commercial town of Ekwulobia. There has been an age-long contention on this issue between the locals of Aguluezechukwu and Ekwulobia, with both towns claiming the status of the headquarters on account of ownership claim to the 'Aguata land'. This state of affairs caused the Government of Anambra State to officially declare that the headquarters of Aguata Local Government Area should be Aguata in a bid to settle the conflict.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, also called UNIZIK or NAU in short is a federal university in Nigeria. It consists of two campuses in Anambra State. Its main campus is in Awka, while its other campus is in Nnewi. There are also other campuses of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. These include Agulu in Aniocha local government area and Ifite-Ogwuari in Ayamelum local government area in Anambra State. This makes Nnamdi Azikiwe University to operate in the three Senatorial Districts in Anambra State, Nigeria having Awka campus, in Anambra Central Senatorial District, Nnewi in Anambra North Senatorial District and Ifite-Ogwuari in Anambra North Senatorial District, respectively.
Nigeria has 774 local government areas (LGAs), each administered by a local government council consisting of a chairman, who is the chief executive, and other elected members, who are referred to as councillors. The 2023 Nigerian presidential election in Anambra State was held on 25 February 2023 as part of the nationwide 2023 Nigerian presidential election to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria. Other federal elections, including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, will also be held on the same date while state elections will be held two weeks afterward on 11 March.
Dozie Ferdinand Nwankwo is a Nigerian politician who represented Njikoka/ Anaocha and Dunukofia Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives. He is a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He won the primary election under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Anambra Central Senatorial District for the 2023 Senatorial election. However, he lost the senatorial seat to Labour Party (LP) candidate.
