Antony Derjacques

Antony Derjacques is a Seychellois constitutional lawyer and politician currently serving as Minister of Transport of Seychelles since 2020. [1]

Education and career

Antony Derjacques was born in Victoria Hospital, Seychelles. At three months old, his parents moved him to Uganda where they worked at the time. He attended Kilembe School where he was classmate with Danny Faure, Seychelles president. Derjacques returned to Seychelles at the age of eight following the expulsion of all Asian and Seychelles nationals in Uganda by Idi Amin Dada. [2] In Seychelles, Derjacques enrolled in Seychelles College where he earned his A Levels. He earned his law degree from East London University where he met Shelton Jolicoeur with whom he got involved in politics in London. They both became interested in anti-imperialism activism and freeing Nelson Mandela from Robben Island Prison. After graduation, Derjacques practiced law focusing on constitutional issues. [2] He was appointed Minister of Transport of Seychelles by President Wavel Ramkalawan in 2020. [3] [4]

Jacques Hodoul was a Seychellois judge and former politician. After serving as Minister of Education and Culture, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1979 to 1982, Minister of National Development from 1982 to 1989, and Minister of Tourism and Transport from 1989 to 1991. He was the leader of the Seychelles Movement for Democracy, which he founded in 1991. Hodoul was appointed to the post of Justice of Appeal in March 2005, the highest court in Seychelles. Hodoul resigned from this position in 2011 after finishing his minimum five-year term. Hodoul died on 3 May 2021.

Peter Larose was a Seychellois accountant and economist who served as a minister of Finance, Trade and Economic Planning Seychelles from 2017 to 2018. He was a World Bank former executive director of African Group 1 Constituency and a member of the International Academic Association. He died in September 2022.

Idith Alexander is a Seychellois public administrator who served as Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture. Alexander holds a bachelor's degree in human resource management from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom and a master's degree in public administration from Tsinghua University, China. She was director of human resources at the ministry of Health from 2006 to 2009 and was appointed chief executive officer of Seychelles National Youth Council in 2010. In 2011, President James Michell appointed him his principal secretary. Alexander served as minister of Labour and Human Resource Development and minister of Youth, Sports and Culture from 2016 to 2017 in the cabinet of President Dany Faure.

Michael Benstrong is a Seychellois banker who served as Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, and Investment, Entrepreneurship, Development and Business Innovation.

Audrey Maryona Vidot is a Seychellois politician and a directly elected member of the National Assembly of Seychelles. A member of the United Seychelles Party, she represents Roche Caiman constituency in the 6th and 7th national assembly.

Churchill Gill is a Seychellois business administrator and politician currently serving as a directly elected member of the 7th National Assembly of Seychelles. He was first elected to the 6th assembly in 2016 on the ticket of United Seychelles Party representing Baie Ste Anne Praslin constituency.
