Benjamin Garnet Compton (born 29 March 1994) is an English cricketer. [1] [2] He is the only son of the cricketer Patrick Compton and a grandson of the cricketer-footballer Denis Compton. [3] He made his first-class debut on 16 September 2019,for Nottinghamshire in the 2019 County Championship. [4] He made his List A debut on 10 August 2021,for Nottinghamshire in the 2021 Royal London One-Day Cup. [5]
Compton was released by Nottinghamshire at the end of the 2021 season. [6] In the off-season he joined Kent on a two-year contract. [7] During the 2021/22 English off-season he played for Mountaineers in Zimbabwean cricket. [8] On 17 November 2021,in the 2021–22 Pro50 Championship match against the Rhinos,Compton scored his first century in List A cricket with 102 runs. [9] In February 2022,in the 2021–22 Logan Cup,Compton also scored his maiden century in first-class cricket. [10] Compton finished as the leading run-scorer in the 2021–22 Pro50 Championship,with 361 runs in eight matches, [11] and was named the Batter of the Tournament. [12]
Compton made his Kent debut in the first match of the 2022 season,where he scored a century,the third of his first-class career. [13] [14] A week later,in Kent's second match of the season,Compton scored his second and third centuries for the team, [15] carrying his bat in the first innings and being the last batter dismissed in the second. [16] He continued to score heavily and came close to achieving 1,000 first-class runs before the end of May,something only achieved nine times previously,the last in 1998. He had made 878 first-class runs in the County Championship in April and May before scoring 158 runs (in two innings combined) in the last match before the end of May,a red-ball two-innings match for a "First Class Counties XI" against the touring New Zealanders in a match that was not given first-class status as the sides used more than eleven players at different stages. [17] [18] He reached the 1,000 run milestone in June,having scored four centuries and five half-centuries during the season to that point. [19]
At the end of the season,Compton was voted Kent's Men's Player of the Year. [20] [21] During the 2022—23 English winter,he returned to Zimbabwe,playing again for Mountaineers. He passed his previous highest first-class score of 140 in a match against Eagles in December,making 154 runs,before scoring his maiden double-century later in the month. His score of 217 came against Southern Rocks in an opening partnership of 228 runs with Joylord Gumbie. [22] [23] He signed a new Kent contract later the same month,keeping at the club until the end of 2024. [21] In Kent's opening match of the 2023 season,Compton scored another century,matching his performance in scoring a century in the opening match of the previous season with an unbeaten 114 runs. Middlesex County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. Gallian scored 171 on his Championship debut for Essex.
Hamilton Masakadza is a Zimbabwean former cricketer,who played all formats of the game for Zimbabwe. He captained the national team during 2016 ICC World T20,but was relieved of his duties following an indifferent team performance in the tournament,where they failed to get past the qualifying round. In February 2019,Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed that Masakadza would captain the national side across all three formats for the 2019–20 season.
Darren Ian Stevens is an English former professional cricketer who played for Leicestershire and Kent County Cricket Clubs between 1997 and 2022. An all-rounder,he played as right-handed batsman and bowled right-arm medium-pace deliveries. He scored over 16,000 first-class runs and after the age of 35 took more than 500 wickets and more than 30 five-wicket hauls. Stevens was named as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in the 2021 edition of the almanack.
Paul Raymond Pollard is an English cricket umpire and former first-class cricketer. As a player,he was an opening batsman who played over 300 games in first-class and List A cricket for Nottinghamshire before a shorter stay with Worcestershire. After retiring from top-line county cricket in 2002,he had one season with Lincolnshire and appeared twice for them in List A matches. His medium-pace bowling was of the occasional variety,and with it he captured four first-class wickets. He has also coached,including in Zimbabwe.
James Michael Vince is an English cricketer who is the captain for Hampshire County Cricket Club and plays for the England cricket team. Vince was part of the England squad that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He is a right-handed middle-order batter who is also a right-arm medium pace bowler. He made his international debut for England in May 2015.

The Southern Rocks is one of five Zimbabwean cricket franchises. They are a first-class cricket team,based in the Masvingo and Matabeleland South area. They play their home matches at Masvingo Sports Club in Masvingo. The team initially ceased to play after the 2013–14 season. In their 47 first-class matches they won 3,lost 27,and drew 17. However,in December 2020,Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed they would be one of the teams playing in the 2020–21 Logan Cup Southern Rocks won their first Logan Cup trophy in the same 2020–21 season.

The 2020 Bob Willis Trophy was a first-class cricket tournament held in the 2020 English cricket season,and the inaugural edition of the Bob Willis Trophy. It was separate from the County Championship,which was not held in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom. The eighteen county cricket teams were split into three regional groups of six,with the two group winners with the most points advancing to a final held at Lord's. The maximum number of overs bowled in a day was reduced from 96 to 90,and the team's first innings could be no longer than 120 overs.
The 2021 County Championship was the 121st cricket County Championship season in England and Wales. For the first phase of the tournament,the teams were split into three groups of six,with each side playing ten matches. The top two teams from each group progressed into Division One for the second phase of the competition,with the other teams progressing to Divisions Two and Three. The team that finished top of Division One became the county champions;and the top two teams from Division One contested a five-day match at Lord's for the Bob Willis Trophy. On 17 December 2020,the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed all the fixtures for the tournament. The 2021 Royal London One-Day Cup tournament was a limited overs cricket competition that formed part of the 2021 English cricket season in England and Wales. Matches were contested over 50 overs per side,having List A cricket status,with all eighteen first-class counties competing in the tournament. The tournament started on 22 July 2021,with the final taking place on 19 August 2021 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Somerset were the defending champions winning the 2019 tournament,with no tournament taking place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
