Cameron Ward (born May 25, 2002) is an American football quarterback who plays for the University of Miami.

Early life and high school career

Ward grew up in West Columbia, Texas and attended Columbia High School. [1] He played in a Wing T offense at Columbia and as a junior completed 72 of 124 passes for 1,070 yards and seven touchdowns. As a senior, Ward averaged only 12 pass attempts per game. He was lightly recruited coming out of high school and committed to play at the University of the Incarnate Word, which was his only scholarship offer. [2]

College career

Incarnate Word

Ward began his collegiate career at Incarnate Word. He was named the Cardinals' starting quarterback going into his freshman season, which was played in the spring after being postponed due to COVID-19. [3] He passed for 2,260 yards passing and FCS-leading 24 touchdowns against four interceptions with two rushing touchdowns in six games during the shortened 2020–21 FCS season and won the Jerry Rice Award as the most outstanding freshman in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision. [4] Ward passed for 4,648 yards and 47 touchdowns with 10 interceptions as a sophomore and was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year. [5] After the end of the season Ward announced that he would be entering the NCAA transfer portal. [6] In January 2024, he announced his intention to transfer to University of Miami. [7]

Washington State

Ward announced his commitment to transfer to Washington State on January 10, 2022. [8] He enrolled at the school for the second semester of his sophomore year and was named the starting quarterback for the 2022 season during the Cougars' spring practices. [9] Ward completed 64.4% of his passes for 3,231 yards with 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions and also rushed for five touchdowns. [10] Ward entered the transfer portal on December 1, 2023. [11] On January 1, 2024, Ward declared for the 2024 NFL draft via X, formerly Twitter. [12]

Miami

Ward announced his commitment to transfer to Miami on January 13, 2024 after previously declaring for the NFL draft 2 weeks prior. [13]

The Incarnate Word Cardinals football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) located in San Antonio, Texas. The program began in 2009 and originally competed in NCAA Division II as members of the Lone Star Conference. In 2013, the school moved to Division I. For the 2013 season, UIW competed as a member of the Southland Conference for all sports except football. Football competed with an 11-game schedule as an Independent. UIW began playing Southland football in the 2014 season. The team plays its home games at the 6,000 seat Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.

The 2020 Incarnate Word Cardinals football team represented the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I FCS football season as a member of the Southland Conference. The Cardinals played their home games at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. They were led by third-year head coach Eric Morris. On August 13 Incarnate Word announced they would postpone all competition for the Fall 2020 and instead opted for a Spring 2021 season.
