Carolyn Terteling-Payne (born December 20,1937) is an American politician who served as interim mayor of Boise,Idaho,from 2003 to 2004.
Terteling-Payne graduated from Boise High School. [1] In 1959,Terteling-Payne earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with minors in psychology and French from University of Idaho. [1] Terteling-Payne became the Freshman Class Officer at University of Idaho. Terteling-Payne served in student government and was a member of the university's Executive Board. Terteling-Payne was a member of Phi Beta Kappa,an honor society. Terteling-Payne was a member and President of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. [1]
In 1993,Terteling-Payne's political career started when she was appointed to the Boise City Council in Idaho. In 1995 and 1999,she won election and continued serving in the city council.
In 2003,incumbent Boise mayor H. Brent Coles resigned after being charged with the misuse of public funds. In February 2003,Terteling-Payne was appointed as interim mayor of Boise,Idaho to serve the remaining term. She was the first woman mayor of Boise,Idaho. While Terteling-Payne was mayor,she fired city attorney Susan Mimura and city spokeswoman Suzanne Burton. In August 2003,the Office of Internal Audit was created. [2] [3] She was not a candidate for election to a full term in 2003.
From 2004 to December 2006,Terteling-Payne served as Idaho director of human resources under then-Governor Jim Risch. [4] Terteling-Payne also served on the board of directors of the St. Luke's Boise Medical Center from 1976 to 2014. [5]
Terteling-Payne's husband was Joseph L. Terteling. In August 1991,after 32 years of marriage,Terteling-Payne divorced Terteling. [6] In May 1995,Terteling-Payne married Frank A. Payne. [6]
Matthew Edward Gonzalez is an American politician,lawyer,and activist. He served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 2001 and 2005 and was president of the Board. In 2003,Gonzalez,running as a member of the Green Party,lost a close race for mayor of San Francisco to Democrat Gavin Newsom. As of 2020,he works as the Chief Attorney at the San Francisco Public Defender's Office.

H. Brent Coles is an American politician who served as mayor of Boise,Idaho from 1993 to 2003. Coles resigned from office after accepting an illegal trip to the 2002 Winter Olympics from an insurance company. Coles was a candidate in the 2019 Boise mayoral election,placing fourth out of seven candidates in first round of voting.

McCarty's career as a public servant in Indiana also worked as a deputy attorney general and assistant attorney general for the State of Indiana (1964–1969),a member of the Indiana Board of Law Examiners (1971–1976),chief counsel to the Marion County,Indiana,Prosecutor (1975–1976),and chairman of the Board for the Indiana Department of Correction (1989–2006). In addition,McCarty co-founded the Indiana Women's Political Caucus and the Greater Indianapolis Women's Political Caucus in 1971 and served as the first president of each organization. As an advocate for women's equality and increasing women's roles in politics and government,McCarty was also involved in the campaign to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in Indiana in 1977.
The 2019 Boise mayoral election was held on November 5,2019,to determine the mayor of Boise,Idaho. The election was officially nonpartisan. The election was won by Boise City Council the president Lauren McLean,who defeated the incumbent mayor Dave Bieter in a runoff election held on December 3,2019.
