Chris Grant (born May 9, 1972) is a basketball executive, and was most recently the general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers. [1]

College

A native of South Lake Tahoe, California, Grant attended the University of San Diego where the 6'10" center played on the men's varsity basketball team, including a year with former Cavaliers coach Mike Brown. [1] [2] He graduated in 1994 with a degree in psychology, also later earning a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of San Diego. [1]

NBA

Grant was hired by the Atlanta Hawks immediately following graduate school. [3] He worked there for nine years, holding several different positions and moved up the ranks, culminating with being named vice president of basketball operations and assistant general manager in 2004. [4] In 2005, he was hired by Danny Ferry to work for the Cleveland Cavaliers. [1] After Ferry's resignation, he was named the new general manager on June 4, 2010. [1] Grant was dismissed by the Cavaliers on February 6, 2014. [5] On October 14, 2016 it was confirmed that Grant had taken a position with the San Antonio Spurs for a role as a team scout. [6]

He is known for his accurate jump shot, for his rebounding, and for overcoming difficult injury challenges during his career. Nicknamed Big Z, Ilgauskas is the Cavaliers' career leader in blocked shots; his jersey no. 11 has been retired by the team.

Michael Burton Brown is an American basketball coach who is the head coach for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Brown was previously the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Los Angeles Lakers, and most recently an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors. He is also the head coach of the Nigerian national team. Brown began coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2005. The team reached the 2007 NBA Finals, where they were swept by the San Antonio Spurs. Brown was honored as NBA Coach of the Year for leading the Cavaliers to a team-record and league-best 66 wins in 2009. The Cavaliers won 61 games, again a league-best, in 2010. However, after the Cavaliers lost to the Boston Celtics in the 2010 Eastern Conference semifinals, Brown was fired. Brown succeeded Phil Jackson as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2011 before being dismissed five games into the 2012–13 season. He returned to the Cavaliers in 2013, but was fired after one season. Brown then joined the Golden State Warriors as associate head coach in 2016; the team went on to defeat the Cavaliers in the 2017 and 2018 NBA Finals, and the Boston Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals. He departed from the Warriors in 2022 to become the head coach of the Sacramento Kings. In his first year as head coach, Brown led the Kings to their first playoff appearance in 17 years, snapping the longest playoff drought in NBA history. Robert Dean Ferry was an American professional basketball player, assistant coach, and general manager (GM) in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for the St. Louis Hawks, Detroit Pistons, and Baltimore Bullets from 1959 to 1969. He then served as GM of the Bullets from 1973 to 1990, overseeing the franchise's only NBA championship in 1978. He played college basketball for Saint Louis.

The 1999–2000 NBA season was the 30th season of the National Basketball Association in Cleveland, Ohio. In the 1999 NBA draft, the Cavaliers selected Andre Miller from the University of Utah with the eighth overall pick, and selected Trajan Langdon out of Duke University with the eleventh overall pick. During the off-season, the team acquired Lamond Murray from the Los Angeles Clippers, and signed free agent Mark Bryant. After playing just five games the previous season, Zydrunas Ilgauskas would miss the entire season due to foot injuries. Under new head coach Randy Wittman, the Cavaliers played around .500 with an 11–9 start in their first 20 games, but then continued to struggle losing ten of their next eleven games. The team finished 6th in the Central Division with a 32–50 record.

The 1989–90 NBA season was the 20th season of the National Basketball Association in Cleveland, Ohio. During the off-season, the Cavaliers acquired second-year guard Steve Kerr from the Phoenix Suns. The Cavaliers got off to a slow start losing their first four games, on their way to a mediocre 10–16 start. Early into the season, the team traded Ron Harper to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for top draft pick Danny Ferry and Reggie Williams; Ferry was selected by the Clippers as the second overall pick in the 1989 NBA draft, but refused to play for them as he went to play overseas in Italy. At midseason, the team traded Chris Dudley to the New Jersey Nets, and released Williams to free agency. The Cavaliers struggled playing below .500 for the first half of the season, holding a 21–25 record at the All-Star break, but finished it on a strong note winning their final six games. The team finished the season with a 42–40 record, finishing 4th in the Central Division, as they advanced to the playoffs.

Mark Warkentien was a basketball coach and executive whose most recent job was as a special assignment evaluator for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He recently served as the New York Knicks' director of player personnel. He was also the former vice president of basketball operations for the Denver Nuggets, where he won the NBA Executive of the Year Award for the 2008–09 NBA season.
