Christine Margery Gwyther (born 1959) is a Welsh Labour politician. She won the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency seat in the first National Assembly for Wales elections in 1999 and held it until 2007. She lost her seat in the 2007 Welsh Assembly Elections,to Conservative candidate Angela Burns.
Gwyther was born in Pembroke Dock. Before going into politics,she worked as a Pembrokeshire County Council Development Officer.[ citation needed ]
During the first term of the Assembly,Gwyther was the Minister of Agriculture under the leadership of Alun Michael.[ citation needed ] She is a vegetarian and as a result was criticised by some farmers and opposition parties. [1] [2] She introduced organic,dairy,red meat and diversification support,as well as a sustainable development scheme for Wales.
In 2000,on the eve of the Royal Welsh Show,she was dismissed from her post as Welsh agriculture minister by First Minister,Rhodri Morgan. [3]
For most of her years at the National Assembly Christine Gwyther chaired the Economic Development and Transport Committee. She was a founder member of the National Assembly Sustainable Energy Group.
She was one of two candidates to be nominated for the 2012 Police and Crime Commissioner for the Dyfed–Powys Police region, [4] losing to the Conservative Christopher Salmon. [5]
Dyfed is a preserved county in southwestern Wales. It is a mostly rural area with a coastline on the Irish Sea and the Bristol Channel.

Dyfed–Powys Police is the territorial police force in Wales policing Carmarthenshire,Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire and the unitary authority of Powys. The Welsh Conservatives is the branch of the United Kingdom Conservative Party that operates in Wales. At Westminster elections,it is the second-most popular political party in Wales,having obtained the second-largest share of the vote at every general election since 1931. In Senedd elections,the Conservatives are currently the second-most supported party but have at times been third. They hold 14 of the 40 Welsh seats in the UK Parliament,and 16 of the 60 seats in the Senedd.
Angela Jane Burns is a British businesswoman and politician who was elected as Conservative AM for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire from 2007 to 2021.
Jeffrey Hambley Cuthbert is a Welsh politician serving as Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner since 2016. Cuthbert served as a Labour Party member of the National Assembly for Wales for Caerphilly from 2003 to 2016. He began his career in the mining industry and later worked for the Welsh Joint Education Committee as head of the Asset to Industry Unit.

Christopher Salmon is a Conservative politician,who served as Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner,the largest police area in England and Wales,from November 2012 until May 2016. He was the first person to hold the post and was elected on 15 November 2012.
The 2016 United Kingdom local elections held on Thursday 5 May 2016 were a series of local elections which were held in 124 local councils and also saw 4 mayoral elections in England which also coincided with elections to the Scottish Parliament,the Welsh Assembly,the Northern Ireland Assembly,the London Assembly,the London mayoral election and the England and Wales Police and crime commissioners. By-elections for the Westminster seats of Ogmore and Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough were also held. These proved to be David Cameron's last local elections as leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister as he resigned two months later following the defeat of Remain in the referendum on Britain's continuing membership of the European Union which was held seven weeks later.

A by-election was held in the UK Parliament constituency of Brecon and Radnorshire on 1 August 2019 after Chris Davies,who had held the seat for the Conservatives since the 2015 general election,was unseated by a recall petition. The by-election was won by Jane Dodds of the Liberal Democrats.
