Sir Colin Hugh Verel McColl, KCMG (born 6 September 1932) was Head of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) from 1989 to 1994.

Career

Educated at Shrewsbury School and at The Queen's College, Oxford, [1] McColl joined the diplomatic service in 1950. [2] He served in Laos, Vietnam, Warsaw and Geneva [2] before he was appointed Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service in 1989. [3] In retirement he was a Director of the Scottish American Investment Company. [4]

In 1996 he was appointed an Honorary Fellow of The Queen's College, Oxford. [1]

Ian McColl, Baron McColl of Dulwich, is a British surgeon, professor, politician and Conservative member of the House of Lords. McColl was made a life peer for his work for disabled people in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 1989, which was gazetted on 29 July 1989 with the style and title of Baron McColl of Dulwich, of Bermondsey in the London Borough of Southwark. He was Parliamentary Private Secretary to Prime Minister John Major from 1994 to 1997 for which he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1997.

SIS is one of the British intelligence agencies and the Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service ("C") is directly accountable to the Foreign Secretary.

Brian Stewart (diplomat) Scottish diplomat

Brian Thomas Webster Stewart was a British soldier, colonial official, diplomat and the second-most senior officer in the British Secret Intelligence Service. He fought in the Second World War, played an influential role in the Malayan Emergency, then served as British Consul-General in Shanghai on the eve of the cultural revolution, as British Representative to North Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and as the Director of Technical Services and Assistant Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) from 1974 to 1979.
