David Busic (born 1964) is an ordained minister and 40th general superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene, the denomination's highest elected office. He was elected on June 25, 2013, at the 28th General Assembly and Conventions in Indianapolis, Indiana. [1]

General Superintendent is the highest elected office within the Church of the Nazarene. General Superintendents are elected by the General Assembly of the denomination for a four-year term to expire at the end of the next General Assembly.

Church of the Nazarene evangelical Christian denomination

The Church of the Nazarene is an evangelical Christian denomination that emerged from the 19th-century Holiness movement in North America. With its members commonly referred to as Nazarenes, it is the largest Wesleyan-holiness denomination in the world.

Prior to his election as general superintendent, Busic served as the president of the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. [1] He has also served as the senior pastor of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene (Bethany, OK), Central Church of the Nazarene (Lenexa, KS), and Vineyard Community Church of the Nazarene (Livermore, CA). He served on staff at the Church of the Nazarene in Shawnee, Kansas. [1]

Nazarene Theological Seminary (NTS) is a Nazarene seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. The seminary was established by the Eleventh General Assembly in June 1944 and started its first school year in 1945 with 61 students. It moved to its current location in 1950. The seminary offers Master's degrees in Divinity, Christian Education, Intercultural Studies, and Theological Studies as well as a Doctor of Ministry degree and non-degree programs.

He has served as a member of the Church of the Nazarene's General Board, as well as serving as the president of the USA National Board. He served as a member of the Board of General Superintendents' Thought Partners, "a think tank for critical issues facing the Church of the Nazarene," from 2005-2013, as a member of the Southern Nazarene University Board of Trustees, and as a member of the Northwest Oklahoma District Advisory Board. In 2007, while serving as senior pastor of Bethany First Church, Busic played a key role in establishing the Swaziland Partnership, which seeks "to help reduce the HIV/AIDS rate and assist vulnerable children in Swaziland, Africa." [1] [3]

Busic graduated from Southern Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in religion and from Nazarene Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. [1] In May 2010, Southern Nazarene University awarded him an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree. [4] As of 2013, he was also pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree in Theology and Culture from Fuller Theological Seminary. [1] [2]

Fuller Theological Seminary

Fuller Theological Seminary is a multidenominational Christian evangelical seminary in Pasadena, California, with regional campuses in the western United States. The seminary has 2,897 students from 90 countries and 110 denominations.

Busic is the author or co-author of numerous books and articles. From 2000 to 2007, he served as co-editor of Preacher's Magazine: A Preaching Resource in the Wesleyan Tradition. [1] [5] His other books include A Pastor's Guide to Effective Preaching, Sharing My Faith, Perfectly Imperfect: Character Sketches from the Old Testament, and Perfectly Imperfect: Character Sketches from the New Testament (forthcoming in 2014). Donald D. Owens is an American general superintendent emeritus in the Church of the Nazarene, and also a retired ordained minister, missionary, professor, and seminary and college president. Owens is the founding president of the forerunner of Korea Nazarene University, and Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary in Taytay, Rizal, Philippines (1983-1984), and served as the pioneer missionary for the Church of the Nazarene in the Republic of Korea (1954-1966), and as a missionary for four years in the Philippines (1981-1985), where he was the first Regional Director of both the Asia Region (1981-1985) and the South Pacific Region (1981-1983) of the Church of the Nazarene. Owens was the 2nd President of MidAmerica Nazarene College in Olathe, Kansas for 4 years from 1985. In June 1989 Owens was elected the 28th General Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene, and after being re-elected in 1993, served until his retirement in June 1997.

William J. Prince was a minister, college president, and emeritus general superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene.

Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary

Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS) is a graduate-level theological institution located near Metro Manila in the Philippines. APNTS is a seminary in the Wesleyan theological tradition and affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene through its Division of World Mission. Its mission is to prepare "men and women for Christ-like leadership and excellence in ministries." Its institutional vision is: "Bridging cultures for Christ, APNTS equips each new generation of leaders to disseminate the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout Asia, the Pacific, and the world.

Ron Benefiel was the eighth president of Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. His term as president was July 2000 – June 2011. Benefiel currently serves as the Dean of the School of Theology and Christian Ministry at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego California.

Eugenio Duarte Nazarene general superintendent

Eugenio Duarte is an ordained minister and 37th General Superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene. Born in Cape Verde, Duarte was the first African and the first non-North American elected to the General Superintendency in the Church of the Nazarene. His election occurred in the centenary year of the denomination. Duarte was elected June 30, 2009 at the 27th General Assembly of the Church of the Nazarene.

The history of the Church of the Nazarene has been divided into seven overlapping periods by the staff of the Nazarene archives in Lenexa, Kansas: (1) Parent Denominations (1887–1907); (2) Consolidation (1896–1915); (3) Search for Solid Foundations (1911–1928); (4) Persistence Amid Adversity (1928–1945); (5) Mid-Century Crusade for Souls (1945–1960); (6) Toward the Post-War Evangelical Mainstream (1960–1980); and (7) Internationalization.

E. LeBron Fairbanks is a retired American ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene who is President emeritus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, President emeritus of Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary, and who served the Church of the Nazarene as the Education Commissioner from March 2008 to September 2011. Carla D. Sunberg is an American ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene, administrator, academic, author, speaker and former missionary and registered nurse, who is the 2nd woman elected as a General Superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene, and was the first woman and the 10th person elected as president of Nazarene Theological Seminary (NTS). At the time of her election on January 3, 2014, Sunberg was co-District Superintendent of the East Ohio District of the Church of the Nazarene, having served in this role since November 1, 2011. Dr Sunberg was elected the 43rd General Superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene on the 11th ballot by the delegates of the 29th General Assembly of the Church of the Nazarene on June 27, 2017. Sunberg is the only daughter of Jerald Johnson, the 24th General Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene.

John M. Nielson is an American ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene, who served as the third president of Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary in Manila, the Philippines from 1989 until 2001, as well as 15 years in pastoral ministry in the USA, Germany, and Denmark. As an educator, Nielson has taught in Nazarene universities, colleges and seminaries in the USA, the Philippines, Australia, and Samoa. From 2004 Nielson has served as Associate Professor of Religion at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Nielson served as a global missionary for the Church of the Nazarene for 17 years. Nielson has written 3 books, a children's musical, and a number of published poems and songs.
