Duta Wacana Christian University (DWCU) or Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) is a private university in Yogyakarta, central of Java island, Indonesia. "Duta Wacana" in Sanskrit conveys an approximate meaning of being 'an ambassador for knowledge' or 'a messenger of the word'. [1]

History

A fusion of two theological academies – Jogjakarta Theological Academy, Yogyakarta and Balewijoto Theological School, Malang – on 31 October 1962, become the Duta Wacana Theological School. This school later became a university, with the name changed to the present Duta Wacana Christian University in 1985.

The Duta Wacana Christian University was established and run by the Foundation of Christian High Education of Duta Wacana.

The Krida Wacana Christian University is a private university in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was founded on January 20, 1967, as Universitas Kristen Djaja. UKRIDA was founded in 1967 under the GKI Synod of West Java. UKRIDA has three campuses and two teaching hospitals, with 5 faculties and 14 study programs, of which two study programs are new study programs, namely Applied Bachelor Optometry & Diploma (D3) Nursing. Not only that, currently UKRIDA is also developing the concentration of Biomedical Engineering in the Electrical Engineering study program. All study programs have been accredited by BAN-PT. The Pasundan Christian Church was officially established in Indonesia on 14 November 1934. It has 51 congregations and 33,000 members. It is a member of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC).

Edy Suandi Hamid was the rector of the Islamic University of Indonesia between 2006 and 2014 and is a professor of economics at the Faculty of Economics, Islamic University of Indonesia, Yogyakarta. He studied at the Faculty of Economics, University of Gadjah Mada (Drs.), Faculty of Economics (M.Ec.) Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand and earned his doctorate degree at UGM. Edy Suandi Hamid was also researcher at the Centre for Rural and Regional Development UGM (1983–1995), researcher at Leknas-LIPI (1984) and the Centre for Economic Democracy Studies UGM, editor at the daily newspaper Kedaulatan Rakyat, Yogyakarta, and also a visiting scholar at Monash University. He has worked at the Faculty of Economics UII since 1985.
