Ekwulobia is an Igbo-speaking town in southeastern Nigeria.[ citation needed ] It is one of the largest cities in Anambra State after Awka, Onitsha, and Nnewi and their respective conurbations.[ citation needed ] It is the headquarters of the present Aguata local government and the headquarters of the old Aguata Local Government that comprised the present Aguata local government and Orumba North and South local governments.[ citation needed ]

Ekwulobia contains nine villages, traditionally treated as two sectors: Ezi and Ifite. The villages under Ezi are Umuchiana, Umuchi, Okpo, Nkono, Abogwume, and Ihuokpala, and the villages under Ifite are Agba, Ula, and Eziagulu.[ citation needed ]

The traditional ruler, or igwe, is Emmanuel Chukwukadibia Onyeneke. [1]

The town houses an Anglican cathedral called the Cathedral Church of Saint John, a Roman Catholic cathedral called the Saint Joseph's Cathedral, and other churches. In March 2020, Pope Francis installed Peter Okpaleke as Bishop of Ekwulobia after the creation of the new diocese. [2] He had previously served as Bishop of Ahiar until his resignation in 2018.

The town also contains a central park, a large daily market, various primary, secondary, and tertiary educational institutions, hotels and resorts, a prison, a soccer stadium, and the Ekwulobian General Hospital. Ekwulobia is known for its special masquerades called the Achikwu, [3] typically occurring during Christmas and Easter celebrations.

Climate

Ekwulobia is monthly warm, with both a wet and dry seasons. Its average yearly temperature is 61° degrees, and it gets an average of 407 inches of rain per year. It is dry for 92 days each year, with an average humidity of 74% and a UV index of 7. [4] [5]

Aguata is a Local Government Area in Anambra State in Nigeria, with its headquarters in Aguata, a major part of which falls into Aguluezechukwu, while the smallest part falls within the commercial town of Ekwulobia. There has been an age-long contention on this issue between the locals of Aguluezechukwu and Ekwulobia, with both towns claiming the status of the headquarters on account of ownership claim to the 'Aguata land'. This state of affairs caused the Government of Anambra State to officially declare that the headquarters of Aguata Local Government Area should be Aguata in a bid to settle the conflict.

Umu-Nneochi or Umunneochi is a Local Government Area (LGA) in Abia State, Nigeria.

The Umuoji people are those whose roots can be traced to the town of Umuoji in Idemili North, a local government area in Anambra State, Nigeria. These people are from Igbo-speaking ethnic group whose early history is adversely affected by a lack of, or non-existent, written records. Umuoji is bounded by Ogidi, Ojoto, Uke, Abatete and Nkpor and has an estimated population of 80,000 people which includes local residents in its 23 villages and citizens in diaspora.

Uga is a town in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. It is 13 km South East of Igbo-Ukwu, 12 km South of Ekwulobia, and 45 km South of Awka, the Anambra State Capital. It has four (4) communities namely : Umueze, Oka, Umuoru and Awarasi. It has recognised landmarks and tourist attractions such as the "Obizi Uga", a natural spring and a spectacular scenery which was the site of an ancient tale in the Uga oral tradition. Uga is the site of an annual traditional celebration known as the "OBUOFOR" festival held every 26 December. Uga has one of the largest markets in the Aguata local government area known as "ORIE" which supports the economic activities of the local community and other surrounding towns.

Umunya is an Olu Town and one of the five communities that make up Oyi Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State Nigeria. It is bordered by six neighbors: Ifite-Dunu, Awkuzu, Nteje, Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Ogbunike, and Umudioka. In the south lies Umudioka and Ifite-Dunu, both in Dunukofia LGA. In the north, Nteje and Nkwelle-Ezunaka. In the east, Awkuzu and in the west, Ogbunike. The boundaries are naturally demarcated by streams except at the border with Nkwelle-Ezunaka where an expanse of Umunya heath namely, Oli-Omoto, Ogwugwu-Obo, Ugwueze, etc. crossed the Kpokili River. Nearly all ten villages of Umunya have their own fresh water springs. The town has fertile lands; hence, its economy is based on agriculture.

Umuchu is one of the largest towns in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. Umuchu lies near the state border between Anambra and Imo States. It is connected by road to Umunze in the east and Igbo-Ukwu in the northwest. It is home to the Igbo people, and Umuchu is also the name of the local dialect of the Igbo language.

Ebenebe is a town in the Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. The town has an estimated population of 45,897 according to the 2006 Nigerian Census. Ebenebe is made up of eight villages, each of which contain hamlets.

Nteje is the headquarters of Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. It is situated about 25 kilometres (16 mi) north-east of Onitsha by land route. It is located on the map along the longitude 6.45°E and the latitude 6.14°N. The land is fairly low, about 500 feet (150 m) above sea level.

Mmaku is a town in the Awgu local government area of Enugu State, Nigeria. The name Mmaku means "Welcomer" or "Embracer". Another derivation comes from the English language, and it means "beauty of wealth."
