"Electric Shock" is a song from South Korean girl group f(x). It was the lead single of their second extended play, Electric Shock , and was released in conjunction with the EP on June 10, 2012, for digital download and streaming via SM Entertainment. The accompanying music video was posted to SM's YouTube channel soon after the song's release.

Commercially, "Electric Shock" reached the top three on the Gaon Digital Chart, K-pop Hot 100, and US World Digital Songs charts, the first time the group did so on the latter two charts. By the end of 2012, it garnered over 2,150,000 paid downloads in South Korea. [1]

Composition

"Electric Shock" is an artpop and dance-pop song, employing elements of electro house. Lyrically, it is about expressing the feeling of love as an electric shock making the entire set about falling for another person and making a bond. [2]

Reception

"Electric Shock" was ranked among the best K-pop songs of 2012 by Daum Music (4th), [3] Spin (8th), [4] and Popjustice (12th). [5] In a The Dong-a Ilbo survey published in 2016, the song was ranked 6th in a vote of the best female idols songs of the past 20 years by music experts, tied with GFriend's "Rough" and Girls' Generation's "I Got a Boy". [6]

Commercially, "Electric Shock" peaked at number one on the Gaon Digital Chart and the component digital download chart, selling 630,510 paid downloads in its first week. [7] It then fell to number three and received 285,501 downloads the following week. After three weeks on the chart, "Electric Shock" garnered a total of 1,121,472 downloads. It was ranked the 35th best-selling song of 2012 in the country, with a cumulative total of 2,150,840 downloads. [1]

Music video

An official 26-second teaser was released June 8, 2012. Another minute and a half extended teaser was aired on KBS World.The music video was officially released on June 12, 2012. [8] [9] The music video garnered more than one million views in less than a day and over 10 million views in less than a week. [10] On October 16, 2016, the video surpassed 100 million views, making f(x) the 6th K-pop group and 3rd K-pop girl group to join the exclusive "100 million club." [11]

The music video shows f(x) dancing to choreography by Jillian Meyers, who had previously worked with f(x) on their hit single, "Pinocchio (Danger)", and would soon work again with "Rum Pum Pum Pum". It features three sets, one pink set with running neon lights similar to a computer chip, one long white room with large white lights and reflective surfaces, and another white room with floor-to-ceiling windows. A total of 4 different sets of outfits can be seen on all five members. Throughout the video, the camera focuses back and forth between the dance number and close ups of each f(x) girl. In certain shots, each girl can be seen holding a specific electroshock weapon and directing it towards the camera: Krystal and Amber use tasers; Victoria and Luna use a stun baton; and Sulli uses a defibrillator.

Rainbow (Korean: 레인보우) was a South Korean girl group formed in 2009 by DSP Media. The group is composed of seven members: Woori, Seungah, Jaekyung, Noeul, Yoonhye, Jisook and Hyunyoung. They released their debut EP Gossip Girl on November 12, 2009, and since released two studio albums and five extended plays, In October 2016, DSP Media announced that Rainbow would disband after seven years because their contracts expired. Spica was a South Korean girl group formed in 2012 under B2M Entertainment. The group consists of Kim Boa, Park Sihyun, Park Narae, Yang Jiwon and Kim Bohyung. Their pre-debut single "Doggedly" was released on January 10, 2012, followed by their debut mini-album, Russian Roulette, on February 8, 2012. They officially disbanded on February 6, 2017, though Bohyung has confirmed a possible reunion in the future.

"Pinocchio (Danger)" (피노키오; Pinokio) is a song and lead single by South Korean girl group f(x) from their first studio album Pinocchio. The song was released digitally on April 17, 2011 through various music portal websites by the distributing and record label agency SM Entertainment. Accompanying promotional music video was released through YouTube on April 19, 2011.

Snowflake is the third extended play (EP) by South Korean girl group GFriend. It was released by Source Music on January 25, 2016 and distributed by LOEN Entertainment. The album contains five songs, including the single "Rough", and two instrumental tracks. The album debuted at number two on the Gaon Album Chart and has sold more than 33,000 units. GFriend promoted the album with a series of televised live performances on South Korea's music shows, winning a total of 15 music show awards and achieving a double-consecutive grandslam in one song. "Rough" was also commercially successful, topping the Gaon Digital Chart and selling more than one million digital downloads. Musically, the album is similar in style to K-pop from the late 1990s and 2000s.

<i>Hello</i> (Mamamoo EP) 2014 EP by Mamamoo

Hello is the debut extended play by South Korean girl group Mamamoo. It was released by WA Entertainment on June 18, 2014 and distributed by CJ E&M Music. It contains seven songs, including the single "Mr. Ambiguous", which was used to promote the album. The album was preceded by three additional singles—collaborations with Bumkey, K.Will and Wheesung, and Geeks. The album is a mix of musical styles, including R&B, hip hop, and funk.

"Cherry Blossom Ending" is a song by South Korean indie band Busker Busker, from their debut studio album Busker Busker 1st Album. The song was written by band member Jang Beom-jun and was released on March 29, 2012, by CJ E&M Music. The song is well known for re-entering the music charts every spring in South Korea, earning the nicknames "Spring Carol" and "Cherry Blossom Zombie". As of 2021, "Cherry Blossom Ending" has received over 8,000,000 digital downloads according to Gaon, making it the best-selling single in the country.

Busker Busker 1st Album is the debut studio album by South Korean indie band Busker Busker. It was released by CJ E&M Music on March 29, 2012. All eleven tracks on the album are written by band member Jang Beom-jun. The album was a commercial success, topping the Gaon Album Chart and selling 100,000 physical copies in two months. The lead single, "Cherry Blossom Ending", was also a chart-topper, and re-enters the charts every spring. Due to the song's continued popularity, the album has also charted every year since release.

"4 Walls" is a song recorded by South Korean girl group f(x) for their fourth studio album of the same title. The song was written by Jam Factory's Lee Seu-ran, whilst the music was composed by LDN Noise, Tay Jasper, and Adrian McKinnon. It was released on October 27, 2015 as the lead single in conjunction with the release of the album through SM Entertainment, and marked the group's first single since the departure of Sulli in 2015. Musically, "4 Walls" is described as a dance-oriented tropical house song, incorporating stylistic elements from UK garage and deep house. It was released as the group's second double A-side CD single in Japan with a new track "Cowboy" on November 2, 2016.

"TT" is a song recorded by South Korean girl group Twice. The song was released by JYP Entertainment on October 24, 2016, as the lead single from their third extended play Twicecoaster: Lane 1. It was written and composed by Sam Lewis and Black Eyed Pilseung respectively. The title "TT" refers to an emoticon used to express crying or sadness.
