Jari Ivan Vella (born 13 December 1985), known professionally as Ensi, is an Italian rapper proficient in freestyle. [1] He won the first edition of MTV Spit in 2012.

Italian hip hop started in the 1980s. One of the first hip hop crews to catch the attention of the Italian mainstream was Bologna's Isola Posse All Star, then and still today produced by Sandro Orru, who had written the soundtrack to the animated TV series Signor Rossi in the 1970s. The European Music Office's report on Music in Europe claimed that, in general, hip hop from the south of Italy tends to be harder than that from the north.

The rapper has also released numerous successful singles and collaborations scoring seventeen times the top ten of the Italian Singles Chart. Alessandro Aleotti, known as J-Ax, is an Italian rapper, formerly in the rap group Articolo 31 with his DJ Vito Luca Perrini. He is the brother of Weedo. On 6 May 2010, he created the band Due di Picche with Neffa.
MTV Spit was a music program aired on MTV Italy and hosted by the italian rapper Marracash. This show focuses on freestyle battles on various current issues including rapper in the underground scene. The first season is aired from 9 March to 4 May 2012. A pilot episode, called Spit Gala, aired 22 December 2011. Besides Marracash, to debut as a presenter, there are in the role of fixed judges: J-Ax, Mastafive and Niccolò Agliardi, and the console to put the beats on which the rapper will clash race alternate Dj Tayone and Dj Double S. In the Spit Gala however the judges were, in addition to J-Ax, Fabri Fibra and the Club Dogo.
