Espen Beranek Holm (born 23 March 1960) is a Norwegian pop artist and comedian.

Career

Beranek is a Norwegian solo artist. His debut single Dra te' hælvete (1981), which was a great success, [1] caused controversy when the song was banned by NRK. It was followed up by the albums Sound of Danger (1981), X-Ray (1983), Trigger (1984), Daylight In the Dark (1986), The Red File (1988) and Tacoma Bridge (1994). He provided synth, guitar, bass, drums and vocal on all albums, and produced all albums himself. [2] Jean Jaques Burnel from the Stranglers recorded one track together with Beranek on Trigger. He also produced a couple of tracks for Daylight In the Dark as well as providing bass and backing vocals. Dave Greenfield from the Stranglers also contributed to the album with some synth-work together with pedal steel guitarist B.J.Cole.

Beranek has been a member of the bands Dei Nye Kappelanane, Langsomt Mot Nord, Spastisk Ekstase and Ung Pike Forsvunnet. He is currently the vocalist and playing guitar in the Oslo-based power trio Oslo Plektrum.

Beranek was also one of the main participants in the satiric radio program Hallo i uken in NRK P2 until the summer of 2009, together with Are Kalvø and Else Michelet, [3] and was very frequently on the comedy television show Løvebakken , a local version of If I Ruled The World, aired from 2002 through 2012 on NRK.

Beranek´s first release in nearly 20 years, Sensitive Dependence, was released in October 2013.

Disaster In The Universe is a Norwegian psychedelic (psychedelia), rock-pop-dub-band from Oslo, Norway. The band worked with Empire of the Sun producer Peter Mayes on their debut album Coconut Message, which was released in Norway in the spring of 2014. The album received critical acclaim from the Norwegian music press, amongst those a rating of 5/6 from national newspaper Dagbladet. The band has played at many large festivals in Norway such as the Hove Festival, the Øya Festival, Slottsfjellfestivalen and By:Larm, and has also played support for Crystal Fighters. Ross Allen from Island Records (UK) and Flora Wong from Dazed Digital rated Disaster In The Universe as the best concert they saw at the entire Øya Festival in 2012. In the summer of 2014, the band announced a tour of Germany, the Netherlands and other European countries during the autumn of 2014 and the spring of 2015.

Trygve Henrik Hoff, born in Rognan, Nordland, was a Norwegian singer, composer, songwriter, and writer. He was a teacher at Buskerud folkehøgskole (Heimtun) for many years when he lived in Darbu, Øvre Eiker. For some time, Trygve Hoff was the conductor of Berlevåg Mannsangforening.

Espen is a Norwegian masculine given name. In Norway it reached the peak of its popularity between 1970 and 1990, during which period approximately 1.1% of children were given that name.

Susanne Fuhr is a Norwegian jazz vocalist, cabaret artist and actor, known from her own S.F. Band in the 1970s.

On 13 October 2021, a man attacked eight people with various weapons – including a bow and arrow – at locations in Kongsberg, Buskerud, Norway, a town about 70 kilometres (43 mi) southwest of the capital city Oslo. Five people were killed, and three others were injured. The accused, identified as Espen Andersen Bråthen, a 37-year-old Danish citizen born in Norway and with a history of mental illness, was taken into custody on the same day and charged with murder. Although he pleaded guilty, in June 2022, a court determined his mental illness meant he could not be held criminally responsible for his actions, and he was sentenced to psychiatric confinement.
