Franz Tost (born 20 January 1956 in Trins, Austria) is a former racing driver and the former team principal of the Scuderia AlphaTauri Formula One team, he departed at the end of the 2023 Formula One season.
Tost competed in Formula Ford and Formula Three, and won the Austrian Formula Ford Championship in 1983. He felt that he was not skilled enough to get to the top of motorsport, so decided to study Sport Science and Management at the University of Innsbruck and the University of Vienna which led him to a job as team manager at the Walter Lechner Racing School. In 1993 he joined Willi Weber where he initially ran the WTS Formula Three team. There he met a young Ralf Schumacher and was asked by Willi Weber to accompany him to Japan. [1]

In 2000 Ralf Schumacher joined the Williams Formula 1 team. Tost followed him, working for Williams' engine supplier BMW as Track Operations Manager until 1 January 2006.
In 2005 Tost was appointed as the team principal of Scuderia Toro Rosso which was the new name of former team Minardi after Red Bull acquired the team. Tost stated that he would aim for fifth place in the Constructors' Championship. He achieved his best results with the team in 2008, 2019 and 2021 landing in the sixth spot in each of these seasons. He retained the role of team principal when Toro Rosso were re-christened as AlphaTauri at the beginning of the 2020 season. [3] Tost was one of the longest serving Formula One team principals of all time. [4]
Tost is often described as hard-working and professional. He is straightforward and not shy of sharing his opinion. [5]
On 26 April 2023, it was announced that Tost would be departing from his role as Team Principal at the end of the 2023 season. [6] Tost had spent 18 years in the role.
Following the 2007 European Grand Prix, at the Nürburgring in Germany, it was alleged that Tost assaulted driver Scott Speed over an incident on the track. After Tost later denied the incident, Speed went to the press describing the acrimonious situation at the team, stating that "after coming out and denying this stuff, it's just another very dishonest thing that Franz or Gerhard [Berger] have said in the media to damage me and Tonio (Vitantonio Liuzzi)". Speed also stated that he did not want to race for Tost and Berger again. [7]
Red Bull Racing, currently competing as Oracle Red Bull Racing and also known simply as Red Bull or RBR, is a Formula One racing team, racing under an Austrian licence and based in the United Kingdom. It is one of two Formula One teams owned by conglomerate Red Bull GmbH, the other being Scuderia AlphaTauri. The Red Bull Racing team has been managed by Christian Horner since its formation in 2005.

The Scuderia Toro Rosso STR1 was the car with which the Scuderia Toro Rosso team competed in the 2006 Formula One season. It was driven by Vitantonio Liuzzi, who had started four Grands Prix for the sister Red Bull Racing team in 2005, and Scott Speed, a débutant who was the first American driver to compete in F1 since Michael Andretti in 1993. The STR1 was the first car from the Faenza-based team to use Michelin tyres since the Minardi PS02. The STR1 was also the first Toro Rosso F1 car to feature the mandatory 7-speed gearbox configuration. The STR1 was also the last Formula One car to utilize the 3.0 L V10 engine configuration to date, but with 16,700 rpm rev limiter and 77mm air restrictor.
The Toro Rosso STR2 is the car with which the Scuderia Toro Rosso team competed in the 2007 Formula One season. It was unveiled on 13 February 2007 at the Circuit de Catalunya. The car is, controversially, a variant of the Red Bull RB3 chassis. It was initially driven by Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed, until Speed was replaced by Sebastian Vettel at the Hungaroring for the remainder of the season. The car in a modified form was also used to compete in the first five races of the 2008 Formula One season. The modified car was driven by Sébastien Bourdais, four-consecutive-time Champ Car winner, and Vettel. The STR2 was the first-ever Toro Rosso F1 car to use the mandatory 90-degree Formula One V8 engine configuration but Toro Rosso opted for the 2006-spec Ferrari 056 instead of the 2007-spec because of 1-year old Toro Rosso engine policy and as a cost-saving measure.
Jaime Víctor Alguersuari Escudero, also known as Jaume Alguersuari, and Squire is a Spanish DJ and retired racing driver best known for competing in Formula One between 2009 and 2011, and for being the 2008 British Formula 3 champion. He is the son of Jaime Alguersuari, Sr., a former motorcyclist and racing driver.
Daniil Vyacheslavovich Kvyat is a Russian professional racing driver racing for Prema Racing in the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship. Kvyat competed in Formula One between 2014–2017 and 2019–2020. He became the second Formula One driver from Russia and is the most successful of the four Russian drivers to date, with three podiums.
Pierre Jean-Jacques Gasly is a French racing driver currently competing in Formula One for Alpine. He won the 2016 GP2 Series championship, and finished as runner-up in the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 Series and the 2017 Super Formula Championship.
The Toro Rosso STR9 is a Formula One racing car designed by Scuderia Toro Rosso to compete in the 2014 Formula One season. It was driven by Jean-Éric Vergne and 2013 GP3 Series champion Daniil Kvyat, who replaced Daniel Ricciardo after Ricciardo moved to Red Bull Racing. The STR9 was the first Toro Rosso car to use an engine built by Renault, the Energy F1-2014. The Toro Rosso STR9 was also the first Italian-licensed F1 car to use Renault engines since the Benetton B201 in 2001 and was also the first Faenza-based Formula One car to utilize turbocharged engines since the Minardi M187 in 1987.
The Scuderia Toro Rosso STR14 is a Formula One racing car designed and constructed by Scuderia Toro Rosso to compete in the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship. The car made its debut at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix.
Yuki Tsunoda is a Japanese racing driver currently competing in Formula One for Scuderia AlphaTauri. Supported by Honda since 2016 through the Honda Formula Dream Project, he was the 2018 Japanese F4 champion and in 2019 also received backing from Red Bull. He finished third in the 2020 Formula 2 Championship and made his Formula One debut in 2021 for AlphaTauri.
Scuderia AlphaTauri, or simply AlphaTauri, was an Italian Formula One racing team and constructor that ran from 2020 to 2023. It is one of two Formula One constructors owned by Austrian conglomerate Red Bull GmbH, the other being Red Bull Racing. The constructor was rebranded for the 2020 Formula One World Championship from "Toro Rosso" to "AlphaTauri" in order to promote Red Bull's AlphaTauri fashion brand. According to Franz Tost and Helmut Marko, the rebrand as Scuderia AlphaTauri also acknowledged that it had transitioned from Red Bull Racing's junior team to its sister team.
The AlphaTauri AT01 is a Formula One car designed and constructed by Scuderia AlphaTauri to compete in the 2020 Formula 1 World Championship. The car was driven by Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly. The AT01 was the first car to be built and run under the AlphaTauri name; the team, previously known as Scuderia Toro Rosso, was renamed ahead of the 2020 championship.
Laurent Mekies is a French engineer who formerly worked as assistant team principal and race director for Scuderia Ferrari. He is due to replace Franz Tost as team principal of Scuderia AlphaTauri.
