Gavin Fisher (born 30 August 1969) was formerly Chief Designer of the Williams Formula One team. He studied mechanical engineering at University of Hertfordshire, which was famous for its aeronautical engineers, graduating with a first class honors degree. He was hired by Williams through an advertisement in the media in 1988 after spending time with Ricardo transmissions. A few months later, Adrian Newey joined Williams from Leyton House and Fisher worked with him until Newey left in 1997 to join McLaren. Fisher, his pupil, was promoted to the role of chief designer, a role that he held until 2005.

In September 2004, Gavin Fisher was seriously injured in a motorbike crash and underwent surgery for a broken pelvis in a hospital in Los Angeles. Senior designer Mark Loasby took over the design of next year's Williams race car during his absence. [1]

Fisher currently follows a number of pursuits including snowboarding, riding motorbikes and sailing boats. [2]

Death of Ayrton Senna Death of the Brazilian race car driver

On 1 May 1994, Brazilian Formula One driver Ayrton Senna was killed after his car crashed into a concrete barrier while he was leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Italy. The previous day, Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger had died when his car crashed during qualification for the race. His and Senna's crashes were the worst of several that took place that weekend and were the first fatal collisions to occur during a Formula One race meeting in 12 years. This became a turning point in the safety of Formula One, prompting the implementation of new safety measures in both Formula One and the circuit, as well as the Grand Prix Drivers' Association to be reestablished. The Supreme Court of Cassation of Italy ruled that mechanical failure was the cause of the crash.
