Grace Boadu Kumanin (died 29 January 2024) was a Ghanaian herbal medicine practitioner, the founder and CEO of Grace Gift Herbal Hospital and Laboratory Services. [1] [2] [3] [4] She was a member of the World Diplomatic Federation and also the Herbal Health Evangelion Ambassador. [5] [6]

Early life and education

Boadu hailed from Ejisu Abankro in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. She attended Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where she studied nursing. [7] She also attended St. Gilbert Nursing College in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. [8] In 2019, she received a doctorate award from City University in Cambodia. [9]

Career

Boadu began her career as a nurse before she became a herbal medicine practitioner. [10] [11] She worked at the County Hospital in Kumasi; Mary Lucy Hospital in Accra; Kropo Charity Hospital, and Ebenezer Maternity Home in Kumasi. [8]

Philanthropy

In November 2023, she donated GHC10,000 towards the renovation of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. [12]

Personal life

Boadu had an uncle called Akwasi Addae. [7] She was not married and had no children. [13] She also had a brother called Emmanuel Boadu. [14]

Death and burial

Boadu died on 29 January 2024 after it was alleged she slipped in her bathroom and hit her head on the ground. [10] [15] She died at her residence at Tantra Hills in Accra. [16] [17] She was buried on 9 March 2024 at Ejisu Abankro in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. [18] [19]

Awards and honours

In March 2023, her clinic was honoured with the ‘Best Outstanding Herbal Centre of the Year’ during the 6th West African Traditional and Alternative Medicals Awards which were held in Accra. [20]

In December 2023, Keche honoured Boadu after a member of the musical group had medical treatment from her facility. [21]

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital(KATH) also known as GEE after the name of its contractors Messrs. GEE Walter & Slater in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana, is the second-largest hospital in Ghana, and the only tertiary health institution in the Ashanti Region.

Ejisu is a city in Greater Kumasi located along the Kumasi-Accra highway about 20 km from Kumasi. It is the capital of Ejisu Municipal Assembly, a municipality of the Ashanti Region, Ghana. This municipal is one of the 30 administrative and political Districts in the Ashanti Region of Ghana and it was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 1890. In 2020, the Nkosuohene of Ejisu was Nana Kofi Poku. In 2022, the Chief of Ejisu was Nana Afrane Okese. As at 2024. the Municipal Chief Executive of the town was Mr Samuel Oduro Frimpong.

Jacob Kenneth Kofi Kwakye-Maafo, also known as Nana Ohemeng Awere V, is a Ghanaian physician and a surgeon who specialises in Obstetrics and Gynecology and traditional ruler of Assin Nsuta and the chief executive of the West End Hospital, Kumasi. A past president of the Ghana Medical Association, he is an advocate of community health and has helped establish several health centres, rural hospitals and clinics in the Ashanti Region of Ghana notably the Ankaasi Faith Healing Methodist Hospital and the Lake Clinic at Amakom near Lake Bosomtwi. He was a member of the committee set up by the government of Ghana in 2003, tasked with the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme in Ghana.

The West End Hospital is a 40-bed private health care facility in Kumasi, Ghana. It is popularly known as the "Kwakye-Maafo Hospital" because of its distinguished services in fertility, obstetrics and gynaecology by the founder, Dr. J.K. Kwakye-Maafo, a medical practitioner and former president of the Ghana Medical Association.
