Idlers is a Canadian reggae band from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, consisting of eleven members. [1] [2]

History

Idlers was founded in 2006 by Paul Schiralli-Earle, Tommy Duggan, and Mark Wilson, and released an EP that year. [3] By the time that the band's first full album, Corner, was released in 2008, there were ten members. [4] [5] The band toured in Canada as far as the prairie provinces. [6]

In March 2009, Idlers traveled to Dreamland Studio in West Hurley, New York, to record their second album, Keep Out. Darryl Jenifer, Bad Brains bassist and Bedouin Soundclash producer, produced the album. The engineer was Phil Burnett. [1] [6] That year they also performed at the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival, and later and toured in western Canada, including British Columbia. [7] Keep Out won an East Coast Music Award for best world music album. [8]

In 2011 the band opened for NOFX's concert in St. John's. [9]

The band has been inactive since 2014.

Hey Rosetta! is a Canadian seven-piece indie rock band from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador and led by singer/songwriter Tim Baker. The band created a sound by incorporating piano, violin, cello, and brass into the traditional four-piece rock setup. On October 13, 2017, the group announced via Facebook post that they would be taking an indefinite hiatus.

Corey and Trina were musicians and comedians from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, active for about 25 years beginning in the 1970s. A husband-and-wife team, they performed throughout all regions of Newfoundland and Labrador and were extremely popular on the island pub scene. One of their best known songs is "The Northern Lights of Labrador".

The Skatalites are a ska band from Jamaica. They played initially between 1963 and 1965, and recorded many of their best known songs in the period, including "Guns of Navarone." They also played on records by Prince Buster and backed many other Jamaican artists who recorded during that period, including Bob Marley & The Wailers, on their first single "Simmer Down." They reformed in 1983 and have played together ever since.

Messenjah is a Canadian-based reggae group that flourished to become one of the most successful and popular reggae groups in the history of Canadian music.

Humanifesto was a Canadian hardcore punk music group from Montreal, formed in 2004 by singer / bassist Phil Campeau and singer / guitarist Franck Chevrier, and which was active between 2004 and 2011. Over years, the band would perform over 100 shows in the Eastern Canadian area, sharing the stage with notable acts including Propagandhi, Strike Anywhere, The Video Dead, Chixdiggit and Hostage Life, and would go on to record two albums, their debut A Declaration of Intent, followed by The Infamous as well as a split 7-inch vinyl EP All These Lives and a NOFX tribute album, released on 7-inch vinyl, titled Don't Eat Meat.

The Gramercy Riffs is a Canadian indie rock band formed in St. John's in 2008. The band is in rotation on CBC Radio. The band was the recipient of the 2010 Atlantis Music Prize for their debut LP It's Heartbreak. The album also received a positive review from Exclaim!.

Earle and Coffin were a Canadian blues and folk music duo from Newfoundland and Labrador, consisting of Nick Earle and Joe Coffin. They are most noted as two-time winners of the Canadian Folk Music Award for Young Performer of the Year, winning at the 12th Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2016 for their album Live at the Citadel House and at the 14th Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2018 for their EP A Day in July.
