The Indian Missionary Society [1] [2] [3] is a Catholic Religious Congregation. It is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. [4]

History

It was founded on 3 November 1941 by Fr. Gaspar A Pinto. [5] [6]

Fr. Gaspar stayed in a rented house in Maldahiya, Varanasi, when he arrived India. In 1943 he bought a plot of land outside the city and named it Christnagar. He laid the foundation of the Mother House of the IMS in Christnagar. Bishop Angelo Poli of Allahabad canonically erected it as a Society of Indigenous Priests on 13 March 1945. In 1953 Msgr. Jos A. E. Fernandez was appointed first Superior General of the society. The Generalate (head office) of the IMS is in Varanasi. It is spread in almost 5 regions [7]

Present

The Congregation is spread in 5 regions and undertakes preaching and missionary work in the rural areas of India. Society at present has 218 religious priests who take care of 65 parishes. [8]

Missionaries of Charity Roman Catholic religious order

The Missionaries of Charity is a Catholic religious congregation established in 1950 by Mother Teresa, now known in the Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta. In 2020, it consisted of 5,167 religious sisters. Members of the order designate their affiliation using the order's initials, "M.C.". A member of the congregation must adhere to the vows of chastity, poverty, obedience, and the fourth vow, to give "wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor." Today, the order consists of both contemplative and active branches in several countries.

Syro-Malabar Church Eastern Catholic Major Archiepiscopal Church

The Syro-Malabar Church is an Eastern Catholic church based in Kerala, India. The Syro-Malabar Church is an autonomous particular church in full communion with the pope and the worldwide Catholic Church, including the Latin Church and the 22 other Eastern Catholic Churches, with self-governance under the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches (CCEO). The Church is headed by the Metropolitan and Gate of all India Major Archbishop Mar George Cardinal Alencherry. The Syro-Malabar Synod of Bishops canonically convoked and presided over by the Major Archbishop constitutes the supreme authority of the Church. The Major Archiepiscopal Curia of the Church is based in Kakkanad, Kochi. Syro-Malabar is a prefix coined from the words Syriac as the church employs the East Syriac Rite liturgy, and Malabar which is the historical name for modern Kerala. The name has been in usage in official Vatican documents since the nineteenth century. It is the second largest Eastern Catholic Church in the Catholic communion, after the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The Syro-Malabar Church is primarily based in India; with 5 metropolitan archeparchies (archdioceses) and 10 suffragan eparchies in Kerala, there are 17 eparchies in other parts of India, and 4 eparchies outside India.

The Congregation of the Missionaries of Saint Charles Borromeo, commonly called the Scalabrinian Missionaries, is a Roman Catholic religious institute of brothers and priests founded by Giovanni Battista Scalabrini, Bishop of Piacenza in Italy, in 1887. The members of the congregation add the nominal letters CS after their names to indicate their membership in the Congregation.. Its mission is to "maintain Catholic faith and practice among Italian emigrants in the New World." Today, they and their sister organizations, the Missionary Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo and the Secular Institute of the Scalabrinian Missionary Women minister to migrants, refugees and displaced persons.

CICM Missionaries

The CICM Missionaries also known by its full name the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a Roman Catholic missionary religious congregation of men established in 1862 by the Belgian Catholic priest Theophile Verbist (1823–1868). Its members add the post-nominal letters C.I.C.M to their names to indicate membership in the Congregation.

Missionaries of the Precious Blood

The Missionaries of the Precious Blood is a Catholic community of priests and brothers. The society was founded by Saint Gaspar del Bufalo in 1815. The Missionaries of the Precious Blood is a shortened English translation of the Latin "Congregatio Missionariorum Pretiosissimi Sanguinis Domini Nostri Jesu Christi,". Priests and brothers add the nominal letters C.PP.S. after their names to indicate their membership in the Congregation.

Geevarghese Ivanios Indian Metropolitan Archbishop & Malankara Catholic Reunion Father and Servant of God

Aboon Geevarghese Ivanios was the first Metropolitan Archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church and Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum. He was the founder of Bethany Ashram order of monks and Bethany madom Order of Nuns. He was the first M.A. degree holder in the Malankara Church. He also served as the Principal of the Kottayam M.D Seminary High School and as a professor at Serampore College. He is venerated in the Catholic Church, having been declared Servant of God by Cardinal Baselios Cleemis.

Michael Augustine (bishop) Indian prelate of the Catholic Church (1933–2017)

Archbishop Savarinathan Michael Augustine was an Indian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the sixth Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Pondicherry and Cuddalore from 1992 to 2004. He is an honorary member of Society of Foreign Missions of Paris. He served the church for 39 years as a bishop and for 56 years as a priest. He died on 4 November 2017 at the age of 84.
