The Inspector General of Police (IGP) is the senior-most and highest ranked police officer of Bangladesh and the head of the Bangladesh Police, who oversees all police activities throughout the country. He reports directly to the Ministry of Home Affairs and is appointed by the government of Bangladesh.
The Chief of Bangladesh Police is an Inspector General, which is the only three star rank of Bangladesh Police. IGP of Bangladesh Police enjoys Senior Secretary status which is equivalent to Lieutenant General of Bangladesh Army. Assistant superintendent, or assistant superintendent of police (ASP), is a rank that was used by police forces in the British Empire and is still used in many police forces in the Commonwealth. It was usually the lowest rank that could be held by a European officer, most of whom joined the police at this rank. In the 20th century, it was in many territories opened to non-Europeans as well.

He served as the 25th Inspector General of Bangladesh police. He went into voluntary retirement from the IGP post after he had been made officer on special duty and within few days he took charge as the adviser of the caretaker government headed by Fakhruddin Ahmed during the state of emergency in Bangladesh which was declared on 11 January 2007.

Hassan Mahmood Khandker is a former Bangladeshi police officer who served as the 26th Inspector General of Bangladesh Police from 31 August 2010 to 30 December 2014. He was the longest serving Inspector General in Bangladesh Police's history. It was during his tenure that Bangladesh Police got Independence Day Award. Moreover, rank badge of the IGP upgraded to 3-star general in his time, earlier IGP was bearing two-star general rank badge since 1983.
Benazir Ahmed is a retired Bangladeshi police officer who served as 30th Inspector General of Bangladesh Police.
