The Virginia–Virginia Tech rivalry is an American college rivalry that exists between the Virginia Cavaliers sports teams of the University of Virginia and the Virginia Tech Hokies sports teams of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The Cavaliers and Hokies had a program-wide rivalry first called the Commonwealth Challenge (2005–2007) which UVA swept 2–0 before ending the series in a show of sportsmanship following the Virginia Tech massacre. A second series called the Commonwealth Clash (2014–2019),under revised rules and sponsored by the state's Virginia 529 College Savings Plan,was again won by UVA,3–2. Rugby Road is a street in Charlottesville,Virginia that serves as the center of the University of Virginia's fraternity and sorority system and its attendant social activity. It is located across the street from central Grounds,beginning at University Avenue across the street from the Rotunda branching off at Preston Avenue and finally curving down to the 250 Bypass,and marks one end of The Corner,a strip of restaurants and stores that cater mainly to students. Rugby Road is lined with a variety of architecturally significant houses from several different decades. The 2004 MPC Computers Bowl was a post-season college football bowl game between the Fresno State Bulldogs and the Virginia Cavaliers on December 27,2004,at Bronco Stadium in Boise,Idaho. The murder of Yeardley Love took place on May 3,2010 in Charlottesville,Virginia,United States. Love,a University of Virginia (UVA) women's lacrosse student-athlete,was found unresponsive in her Charlottesville apartment and later that day,UVA men's lacrosse player George Wesley Huguely V was arrested by Charlottesville police. Huguely was tried and found guilty of Love's murder,receiving a 23 year prison sentence.

The Johns Hopkins–Virginia lacrosse rivalry is an intercollegiate lacrosse rivalry between the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays and Virginia Cavaliers. The teams compete for the Doyle Smith Cup,which was first awarded in 2006. Edward Doyle Smith Jr.,the only inductee to the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame to have never competed in the sport,was a team manager and statistician at Johns Hopkins for five years before becoming UVA's first assistant sports information director,which he held for 31 seasons. Smith is also credited with the standardization of game statistics for lacrosse at the national level,twice receiving the USILA Man of the Year Award.
Bruce M. Stave was an American historian specializing in oral history and urban history. He was a Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of History Emeritus at the University of Connecticut,where he taught for decades.
Harry J. Hartley was an American educator and academic administrator who served as the 12th President of the University of Connecticut (1990–1996). Prior to his presidency,Hartley had served twice as UConn's acting president,vice president for finance and administration,and dean of the UConn School of Education (1972–1975).
John PeterMcDonald(October 17,1922 –November 19,1993) was an American librarian. McDonald served as university librarian and director at the University of Connecticut and executive director of the Association of Research Libraries (1974–76).
