The Lampre group is an Italian-based company that specialises in pre-coated steel production. In addition to the main company the group also contains Lamital [1] and Lamifer, [2] as well as a Portuguese subsidiary called Lampre Portugal.

Lampre as a sponsor of cycling

Lampre was the former leading sponsor of a professional Italian cycling team with the same name. Lampre appeared on the cycling jersey of a professional team for the first time in 1991. In 1993, the team won the Milan–San Remo with Maurizio Fondriest, and the overall UCI Road World Cup. In 1999, in partnership with Daikin, Oscar Camenzind wore the World Champion jersey. In 2001, Gilberto Simoni won the Giro d'Italia for Lampre–Daikin. After two seasons in which Lampre was main sponsor of the team driven by Giuseppe Saronni, the Galbusera family decided to amalgamate with other sponsors in order to follow the UCI ProTour project: from the union between the Lampre group and the Saeco group was born team Lampre–Caffita, with champions such as Damiano Cunego and Gilberto Simoni. In 2006 a new partnership started: Fondital became the new main partner of Lampre. Fondital heads a European Group that designs and produces aluminium radiators.

Early 1990s

Lampre first entered cycling in 1991, co-sponsoring the Colnago–Lampre team. They took over the lead name in 1992, until the end of 1995. In 1996, they stopped sponsoring the team, although it continued to race under the name Ceramica Panaria–Vinavil.

Lampre–Daikin

Lampre re-entered cycling in 1999, sponsoring the Italian-based Lampre-Daikin team. Daikin remained a co-sponsor until the end of 2002 at the height of Lance Armstrong's zenith, when Raimondas Rumšas's wife was caught during the Tour de France with performance-enhancing drugs in the front seat of her car. Lampre in the UCI ProTour

At the end of 2004, Lampre merged with Saeco to form a new cycling team ready for the UCI ProTour. Lampre merged with Saeco at the end of the 2004 season to create a new team ready for the UCI ProTour.

Aside from this incident in 2002 he finished on the podium in every other Giro between 1999 and 2006.

The 2005 ProTour was the first year of the newly introduced UCI ProTour system, in which the ProTour teams are guaranteed, and obliged to, participate in the series of ProTour races. In certain ways the ProTour replaced the UCI Road World Cup series of one-day races, which in 2004 was won by one-day specialist Paolo Bettini for the third time in a row. The beginning of the ProTour saw difficult negotiations with the organizers of the Grand Tours, the Tour de France, the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España.

The 2003 Giro d'Italia was the 86th edition of the Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The Giro began in Lecce with a 201 km (125 mi) mass-start stage. The race came to a close with a 33 km (21 mi) individual time trial that began and ended in the Italian city of Milan. Nineteen teams entered the race that was won by the Italian Gilberto Simoni of the Saeco team. Second and third were the Italian Stefano Garzelli and Ukrainian Yaroslav Popovych.

The 2006 edition of the men's UCI Road World Championships Road Race took place on September 24, 2006, in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Reigning Olympic champion and Italian Paolo Bettini captured the gold medal and the rainbow jersey as the 2006 World Cycling Champion. The 36-year-old German sprinter Erik Zabel took the silver medal and UCI ProTour winner Alejandro Valverde of Spain captured third place for the bronze medal. A total of 136 cyclists actually finished the race, with Slovakia's Roman Broniš in last place.

The 2007 Tour de Romandie served as the 59th edition of this event now held on the 2007 UCI ProTour. The stage race was held from May 1 through May 6, 2007 in the French-speaking area of Switzerland known as Romandy. The race winner was Thomas Dekker of Rabobank.

The 2007 Eneco Tour road cycling race took place from 22 to 29 August. The third edition of the Eneco Tour covered parts of the Netherlands and Belgium. Instead of 23 teams like before, only 21 teams take part in the race this year. Of the 20 UCI ProTour teams, only Astana chose not to take part. The teams Chocolade Jacques–Topsport Vlaanderen and Skil–Shimano were each given a wild card.

The 2010 season for the Lampre–Farnese Vini cycling team began in January with the Giro della Provincia di Reggio Calabria and ended in October at the Giro di Lombardia. Though the team holds a valid UCI ProTour license, they were denied ProTour registration in November 2009. The matter remained unresolved at the time of the Tour Down Under, meaning the team missed the first major race of the season, but during January the UCI issued a temporary licence as a member of the ProTour until the end of March. Full license rights were restored at the end of March.

The 2002 Tour de Suisse was the 66th edition of the Tour de Suisse cycle race and was held from 18 June to 27 June 2002. The race started in Lucerne and finished in Biel. The race was won by Alex Zülle of the Coast team.

The 1999 Volta a Catalunya was the 79th edition of the Volta a Catalunya cycle race and was held from 17 June to 24 June 1999. The race started in La Pineda and finished at the Alto de la Rabassa in Andorra. The race was won by Manuel Beltrán of the Banesto team.
