<span class="mw-page-title-main">Carlos Chagas</span> Brazilian doctor and scientist (1879–1934)

Carlos Justiniano Ribeiro Chagas, or Carlos Chagas, was a Brazilian sanitary physician, scientist, and microbiologist who worked as a clinician and researcher. Most well known for the discovery of an eponymous protozoal infection called Chagas disease, also called American trypanosomiasis, he also discovered the causative fungi of the pneumocystis pneumonia. He described the two pathogens in 1909, while he was working at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute in Rio de Janeiro, and named the former Trypanosoma cruzi to honour his friend Oswaldo Cruz.

Maurício Oscar da Rocha e Silva was a Brazilian physician, biomedical scientist and pharmacologist. He discovered bradykinin, an endogenous polypeptide involved in the physiology, pharmacology and pathology of blood pressure control and many other phenomena related to the contraction of smooth muscles.

Henrique da Rocha Lima was a Brazilian physician, pathologist and infectologist born in Rio de Janeiro. With his friend, Stanislaus von Prowazek, he described what would later be known as Rickettsia prowazekii, the pathogen of epidemic typhus. Rocha Lima named the organism after Prowazek and American bacteriologist Howard Taylor Ricketts (1871-1910).

Júlio Afrânio Peixoto was a Brazilian physician, writer, politician, historian, university president, and pioneering eugenicist. He held many public offices, including Brazilian congressional representative from Bahia in the federal Câmara de Deputados (1924–1930), first the president of the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, member of the Brazilian Cultural Center in the United States, president of the Academia Brasileira de Letras, and honorary doctorates from Coimbra University and the University of Lisbon, Portugal.

Marshal is the highest rank in both the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force, although the latter is titled marechal-do-ar. These ranks are equivalent to that of admiral in the navy. A marshal is distinguished by using five stars, which for a marshal of the air are in the approximate position of Southern Cross and for a marshal in the army, in the form of "X". The five stars of admiral are in the shape of a pentagon.

Marcelo de Lima Henrique is a Brazilian football referee. He refereed at 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. In August 2022, he became the oldest referee in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Marcelo was FIFA listed between 2008 and 2014. He served in the Brazilian navy before becoming a full-time referee.

In 2015, the Brazilian Film Critics Association (Abraccine) published a list with the 100 best Brazilian films ever according to the votes of its members. This poll was the basis for a book named The 100 Best Brazilian Films, published in 2016. The idea of the ranking and the book was suggested by publisher Letramento, with whom Abraccine and television network Canal Brasil co-released the book. The ranking was done based on individual lists done by Abraccine's 100 critics, who initially mentioned 379 films. The full list was first made available to the public on 26 November 2015, and the book was released on 1 September 2016.

Secretary General of Foreign Affairs is the highest position in Brazil's professional diplomatic career. The position must be occupied by a born Brazilian, admitted to the diplomatic career by public exams, and he or she must be a career ambassador. It is generally considered "the most graduated Brazilian diplomat" The Secretary General manages the Itamaraty, Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He or she acts under the guidances of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil. As vice-chancellor of Brazil, the Secretary General is the Acting Foreign Minister inside Brazilian borders during all the trips abroad performed by the official, political Minister.

Por Toda Minha Vida is a Brazilian television series produced and broadcast by Rede Globo. His first episode aired on December 28, 2006. It is the Brazilian television series with the most nominations to the Emmy Award.
