Lovemore Matombo

Lovemore Matombo (died January 27, 2020) was the President of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU). [1]

Police arrested Matombo in March 2007 for allegedly assaulting his daughter-in-law, Mary-Ane Nyathi, on February 11. Magistrate Robson Finsin of Harare Magistrates' Court found him innocent on June 29, 2007 on the grounds that there were a lack of witnesses. His lawyers, Alec Muchadehama and Andrew Makoni, defended him in the case. One of the two witnesses in the incident, security guard Tangirai Mukondo, admitted police had coached him on what to say in court. [1]

Nyathi is still pursuing the case in civil court. [1]

On May 8, 2008, Matombo and ZCTU Secretary-General Wellington Chibebe were arrested for allegedly inciting rebellion when speaking at a rally on May Day. They were released on bail on May 19 by Judge Ben Hlatshwayo. Hlatshwayo ordered that they "not address any political gatherings" until the conclusion of their case, along with other restrictions. Dr. Mohammad Shahabuddin was a politician and former Member of Parliament from the Siwan constituency in the state of Bihar. There were widespread reports of systematic and escalating violations of human rights in Zimbabwe under the regime of Robert Mugabe and his party, ZANU-PF, between 1980 and 2017.

Tendai Biti Zimbabwean politician

Tendai Laxton Biti is a Zimbabwean politician who served as Finance Minister of Zimbabwe from 2009 to 2013. He is the current Member of Parliament for Harare East Constituency and the second Vice President of Citizens Coalition for Change. He was the Secretary-General of the Movement for Democratic Change and the subsequent Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai (MDC-T) political parties and a Member of Parliament for Harare East until he was expelled from the party and recalled from parliament in mid-2014,before winning the seat again in 2018.

The 2007 hitman case is an Australian criminal case involving Steven Wayne Spaliviero and Swede Charlotte Karin Lindström. Lindström is so far the only one sentenced for the crime. Spaliviero served 11 years in prison and was released October 2017, but was never charged for the hitman case. The hitman case has been widely reported by media in Australia and Scandinavia.

Felix Magalela Mafa Sibanda born February 5, 1951 is a Zimbabwean activist, community organizer, politician and member of parliament for Magwegwe in Bulawayo for the MDC-T party, as well as being national vice spokesperson for that party. He is from the Ndebele Royal inner circle, his great great grand father, Masonginyoka arrived from Transvaal with Mzilikazi as a personal doctor to the King. Tshokomela, his fathers father was also King Lobengula's doctor who gave rise to his father Maphahla, also nick named Mafa Sigodo meaning the "heir" hence the name Mafa or Ilifa.

Dileep Indian actor and producer

2008 Zimbabwean general election

General elections were held in Zimbabwe on 29 March 2008 to elect the President and Parliament. Because of Zimbabwe's dire economic situation, the elections were expected to provide incumbent President Robert Mugabe with his toughest electoral challenge to date. Mugabe's opponents were critical of the handling of the electoral process, and the government was accused of planning to rig the election. Human Rights Watch said that the election was likely to be "deeply flawed."

Linda Tsungirirai Masarira is a Zimbabwean politician who served as a spokesperson for one of the biggest opposition parties in Zimbabwe, MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe.

Killing of Brendin Horner October killing of a farm manager in Paul Roux, Free State

Brendin 'Choppie' Horner was a 21-year-old South African farm manager for the Bloukruin Estate at Paul Roux, Free State, who was killed by a suspected stock thief or thieves. His body was recovered at DeRots farm outside Paul Roux, and two suspects were taken into custody. Horner's death heightened tensions in South Africa's ongoing farm attacks situation, and the first appearances of the two suspects at Senekal's Magistrate's Court was accompanied by protest action by political and civil rights groups, as well as far right groups that alleged Horner's murder was an example of the White genocide conspiracy theory.
