Derryth Lynne Thomas (born 29 September 1939) is a Welsh former cricketer who played as a right-handed batter and right-arm off break bowler. She appeared in 10 Test matches and 12 One Day Internationals for England between 1966 and 1979. She also played 12 matches for,and was captain of,International XI at the 1982 World Cup. She played domestic cricket for West of England. [1] [2]
She opened the batting for England when they won the 1973 World Cup,and,against International XI in England's opening game of the tournament,became the first woman to score a century in one-day international cricket. [1] In the same match,along with Enid Bakewell,Thomas set the record for the highest opening partnership in Women's Cricket World Cup history (246). [3]
She also played hockey at international level for Wales. She was a full-time P.E. teacher at Neath Girls' Grammar School. [4]
The ICC Women's Cricket World Cup is the sport's oldest world championship,with the first tournament held in England in 1973. Matches are played as One Day Internationals (ODIs) over 50 overs per team,while there is also another championship for Twenty20 International cricket,the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.
Enid Bakewell played for the English women's cricket team in 12 Tests between 1968 and 1979,and in 23 one-day international matches. A right-handed batter and slow left-arm orthodox bowler,on her figures she has a strong claim to be regarded as the best all-rounder that the English women's game has produced. In Tests she scored 1,078 runs at an average of 59.88,with 4 centuries,as well as taking 50 wickets at an average of 16.62. In what proved to be her final Test,she scored 68 and 112* and took 10 for 75 against West Indies at Edgbaston in 1979. Her final WODI appearance was in the final of the 1982 Women's Cricket World Cup.
The International XI women's cricket team was a team that took part in two Women's Cricket World Cups. They were essentially a "best of the rest" team,including players not selected by their own countries. They took part in the 1973 Women's Cricket World Cup,finishing in fourth place,and returned for the 1982 tournament,finishing in last place. Their overall record in ODIs was played 18,won 3,lost 14,with one no result.
The Young England women's cricket team was a team that played in the 1973 Women's Cricket World Cup. They were an Under 25 side,playing in addition to the senior England team. They finished last in the seven team tournament,their only win coming against International XI.

She appeared in 10 Test matches for England between 1957 and 1969,as well as playing in 6 One Day Internationals,as captain,for International XI at the 1973 World Cup. She played domestic cricket for West of England and Kent,and served in the Women's Royal Naval Service.

She played for England between 2008 and 2022,and has previously played domestic cricket for Somerset,Berkshire,Western Storm,Southern Vipers and Perth Scorchers.
