Adiong started his career in politics in 1996 as an appointed board member, and was elected to the same position in 1998. In 2001, he went on to become the province's sports officer and concurrently appointed as the Provincial Administrator of by his father, then-Governor Mamintal Adiong Sr. In 2003, he assumed the OIC provincial engineer position. He also worked in the private sector—as CEO of MMA Construction and Development Corporation and was involved in the ARMM Social Fund Project. [7]

In 2006, Adiong was appointed as member of the newly-established ARMM Social Fund Project, representing the business community. [9] [10]

Adiong, ran under Lakas–CMD, was elected as provincial governor in 2007, [3] [11] along with his running mate, former Department of the Interior and Local Government-ARMM Regional Secretary Datu RPK Arsad Marohombsar, as vice governor, against the tandem of incumbent Marawi city mayor Omar Ali [11] [12] [13] and Assemblyman Jamil Lucman; 2nd District representative Benasing Macarambon Jr. [12] and re-electionist vice governor Monera Dimakuta-Macabangon; and re-electionist governor Aleem Bashier Manalao [12] of Ompia Party.[ citation needed ] He was re-elected in 2010, defeating Ali again, [14] and in 2013. [15] [16]

Prior to 2013 elections, on July 25, 2012, Adiong, along with 163 other ARMM officials, took oath as member of the Liberal Party (LP). [17]

In 2014, a group, claiming that Adiong had debts prior to his governorship, filed plunder and graft complaints against him before the Ombudsman for alleged unexplained increase in his net worth. [18]

In 2016, he was elected as provincial vice-governor, with his mother, Soraya Alonto Adiong, succeeding him as governor. Both ran under LP. [4] [19]

Adiong, returned to Lakas, was elected again as provincial governor in 2019 [20] and in 2022. [8] [21]

Attacks against Adiong

In 2007, unidentified gunmen attacked Adiong's house in Marawi; none was hurt. [22]

On February 17, 2023, he, along with a civilian aide, was injured by unidentified gunmen in an ambush on his convoy. Four of his companions were killed during the attack. [23] In connection with the incident, three of the suspects, including an alleged mastermind, a gang leader, were killed in police operations; [24] [25] [26] five others were arrested. [25] [27] [28] Three individuals, said to have links with local terrorist group Dawlah Islamiya , were charged with murder, frustrated murder and attempted murder before the Marawi Regional Trial Court; one of them remains at large. The Jamiatu Muslim Mindanao (JMM) is one of the oldest and biggest Madaris in the Philippines. It was established with the financial backing from the Agama Islam Society in 1956 by the late Sheikh Ahmad Bashir, his devoted companions from the Ulama (Ustad) and Traditional (Cali) Group. Its English Department was founded in 1987 through Board Resolution No. 1-87, series of 1987 and sought the government recognition in accordance with the provisions of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports (MECS) Order No. 24, series of 1985, also known as “Guidelines and Standards for the Recognition and Operation of Madaris.” In the same year, Ma’had Mindanao Al-Arabie Al-Islamia was changed and adopted its present name.

Ansaruddin Abdul Malik Alonto Adiong is a Filipino politician serving as mayor of Ditsaan-Ramain, Lanao del Sur since 2022. Previously, he was the representative of Lanao del Sur's 1st district (2013–2022). He was elected vice governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in 2005. After Governor Zaldy Ampatuan's removal from office in 2009, Adiong became the acting governor until 2011.

Mamintal M. Adiong Sr. was a long-time Filipino politician, served as representative of Lanao del Sur to the Philippine Congress (1992–2001) and as provincial governor from 2001 until his death from cardiac arrest in 2004. He was largely credited for the landslide victory of President Gloria Arroyo and her slate in the 2004 elections.

Datu Yusoph Boyog Mama is a Filipino politician and government official. He was a candidate for public office as Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Regional Governor in the previous 2013 Mid-term Elections, being the lone candidate representing the province of Lanao del Sur, one of the five (5) provinces constituting the ARMM territory. With the support of various key multi-sectoral groups in the province of Lanao del Sur and the provincial capital Islamic City of Marawi, Datu Yusoph B. Mama ran as an independent candidate.

Benasing Onayan Macarambon Jr. is a Filipino politician who served as representative of the Second District of Lanao del Sur, Philippines (1998–2007). In 2018, he was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte a Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority board member and director until September 22, 2022.
