History

The house was the home of Grigorios Maraslis who was the Mayor of Odessa. He lived here from 1831 to 1907. The house had belonged to his father (1780–1853) who had the same name. It is not known who is the architect, but his father had bought this house in the 1820s. [1]

During the Soviet era the house had a number of uses including as a hospital and an Oncology centre.

The building has a plaque outside that notifies visitors of its significance. There is also a QRpedia code that links to this article.

Isaac Emmanuilovich Babel was a Russian writer, journalist, playwright, and literary translator. He is best known as the author of Red Cavalry and Odessa Stories, and has been acclaimed as "the greatest prose writer of Russian Jewry." Babel was arrested by the NKVD on 15 May 1939 on fabricated charges of terrorism and espionage, and executed on 27 January 1940.

ODESSA is an American codename coined in 1946 to cover Nazi underground escape plans at the end of World War II by a group of SS officers with the aim of facilitating secret escape routes, and any directly ensuing arrangements. The idea has been widely circulated in fictional spy novels and movies, including Frederick Forsyth's best-selling thriller The Odessa File (1972). The routes are also called ratlines. Known goals included allowing the SS members to escape to Argentina or the Middle East under false passports.

Friday Night Lights is a 2004 American sports drama film co-written and directed by Peter Berg. The film follows the coach and players of a high school football team in the Texas city of Odessa, which supported the team and was obsessed with them. The book on which it is based, Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream (1990) by H. G. Bissinger, followed the story of the 1988 Permian High School Panthers football team as they made a run towards the state championship. A television series of the same name premiered on October 3, 2006 on NBC. The film won the Best Sports Movie ESPY Award and was ranked number 37 on Entertainment Weekly's list of the Best High School Movies.

Odesa Fine Arts Museum Art museum in Sofiyska , Odesa

Odesa National Fine Arts Museum or Odesa National Art Museum is one of the principal art galleries of the city of Odesa. Founded in 1899, it occupies the Potocki Palace, itself a monument of early 19th century architecture. The museum now houses more than 10 thousand pieces of art, including paintings by some of the best-known Russian and Ukrainian artists of late 19th and early 20th century. It is the only museum in Odessa that has free entrance day every last Sunday of the month.

Hretska Ploshcha

Hretska Square, or Hretska Ploshcha is one of the main squares of Odesa. It is on the crossing of Hretska Street and Oleksandrivskyi Prospekt. At different times it has been called Aleksandrovskaya or Martynovskogo. This is one of the biggest squares of Odesa. 2014 Odessa clashes Clashes between pro-Maidan and anti-Maidan demonstrators in Odessa, Ukraine

The 2014 Odesa clashes were a series of conflicts between pro-Maidan and anti-Maidan demonstrators that occurred in the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa in 2014, following the Revolution of Dignity. The violence intensified on May 2 when a pro-Maidan demonstration was attacked by anti-Maidan activists. In the ensuing clashes, the pro-Maidan demonstrators moved to dismantle an anti-Maidan tent camp in Kulykove Pole, causing groups of anti-Maidan activists to take refuge in the nearby Trade Unions House. Pro-Maidan demonstrators attempted to storm the Trade Union House, which caught fire as the two sides threw petrol bombs at each other. The events resulted in deaths of 48 people, 46 of whom were anti-Maidan activists. 42 of the victims died in the Trade Unions House fire, and 200 were injured.

Grigorios Maraslis

Grigorios Maraslis was an official of the Russian Empire and long-time mayor of Odessa (1878–1895) of Greek origin. A noted philanthropist, he sponsored many buildings and educational institutions both in Odessa and in various cities in Greece and for the Greek communities of the Ottoman Empire. He was awarded Order of the Cross of Takovo and Order of Prince Danilo I.

Burak Deniz is a Turkish actor and model. He is best known for his lead role as Murat Sarsılmaz in the television series Aşk Laftan Anlamaz, and later as Barış Aktan in the television series Bizim Hikaye, and as Mehmet Kadir Bilmez in the internet series Yarım Kalan Aşklar.
