Meishi Smile is a Los Angeles based band formed by producer, vocalist, and songwriter Faye Yim. The name Meishi Smile was first used in 2010. [1] The project has elements of noise music, J-pop and shoegaze. [2]

Career

In 2014, the first Meishi Smile album, LUST, was released on Attack The Music and Zoom Lens. Later that year, Yim released a new single called Star on Maltine Records. [3]

In January 2015, Yim debuted their first video on national television on Adult Swim with the video "AJS." [4]

On May 21, 2015, Yim announced through an interview with The Fader that they were working on a forthcoming album entitled ...Belong [5]

On May 28, 2015, Yim premiered a new single entitled Breathe. [6]

In 2020, the music project led formerly only by Yim was announced to have turned into a band. [7] Yim is the vocalist, songwriter, producer, and visual artist for Meishi Smile. [8]

Strata is an American rock band from Campbell, California, formed in 2000, when guitarist Ryan Hernandez and singer Eric Victorino met and left their previous bands. Bassist Hrag Chanchanian and drummer Patrick Spain completed the lineup under the band's original name, Downside. The band released an EP entitled "For Testing Purposes" and an album called Sleep in 2001. Garnering major label attention early on, Downside signed a development deal with Capitol Records, during which time they replaced drummer Patrick Spain with Adrian Robison and recorded a collection of songs called, The Industry Is Outnumbered... Their Factories Are Burning Down, much of which would become their major label debut, under the name Strata, on Wind-Up Records in 2003.

The song explores the topic of romantic baggage, guilt and utilizes several metaphors. Lyrically, the song expresses a narrative about a man who, burdened with many failed relationships, ends his life by driving into the ocean. Orchid Tapes is a Canadian–American independent record label based in New York City. It was founded in 2010 in Toronto, Ontario by Warren Hildebrand. Operated by Hildebrand, the label has released a number of indie compilations and original releases on cassette tape, limited edition vinyl, and digital download. Among Orchid Tapes' signed artists are Coma Cinema, Foxes in Fiction, and Alex G. The Missing Notebook Rhymes is a compilation album partially released in 2017 by British-American rapper MF DOOM under the shortened alias "DOOM". The album was intended to be a 15-song compilation of rare or unreleased DOOM tracks that would be released on Adult Swim's website one song a week for 15 weeks—however, on 27 September 2017 Adult Swim abruptly announced the cancellation of the project, just seven songs into its intended 15 song tracklist.
