Merlimau is a mukim and town in Jasin District, Malacca, Malaysia. [1] [2] Politically, it is situated in the parliament constituency of P139 Jasin, [3] [4] and state constituency of N27 Merlimau, which consists of seven ballot box areas, namely Ayer Merbau, Chincin, Jasin Lalang, Merlimau Utara, Merlimau Pasir, Permatang Serai, and Pengkalan Samak. [5]

Jasin District is one of the three administrative district in Malacca, Malaysia. It borders Tangkak District of Johor to the east, Tampin District of Negeri Sembilan to the north and Alor Gajah District and Melaka Tengah District to the west. The district capital is Jasin Town.

However, both divided administrative districts are still collectively and fondly called and referred to as the region or area of Muar as a whole by their residents and outsiders. Currently, the new township of Muar is located in the Bakri area.

Malacca State of Malaysia

Sulaiman Md Ali Malaysian politician

Datuk Seri Utama Haji Sulaiman bin Md Ali is a Malaysian politician who has served as the 12th Chief Minister of Malacca since March 2020 and Member of the Malacca State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Lendu since May 2013. He served as the Deputy Member of the Malacca State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Barisan Nasional (BN) state administration under former Chief Minister and former Member Idris Haron from May 2013 to the collapse of the BN state administration in May 2018. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the federal and state ruling BN coalition which is aligned with another federal and state ruling Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition at both the federal and state levels. On 4 October 2021, former Chief Minister of Melaka and Sungai Udang MLA Idris Haron and three other MLAs declared loss of confidence and support for him as Chief Minister and claimed that the state govermment has collapsed. However, the state government will only collapse when the chief minister resigns or loses the vote of a motion of confidence in the state legislative assembly. Following this, the Melaka State Legislative Assembly was dissolved the same day following his loss of majority support in the assembly and his state government stayed in power in caretaker capacity before the next government was formed after the 2021 Malacca state election on 20 November 2021. In the election, Barisan Nasional (BN) won 21 out of 28 state seats and therefore a two-thirds majority in the assembly, he remained as chief minister in the new government. The next day, Sulaiman was sworn in as chief minister.

Abdul Ghafar bin Atan was a Malaysian politician. He served as Member of the Melaka State Executive Council (EXCO) from March 2008 to May 2018 and again from March 2020 to his death in November 2021, as well as Member of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Asahan from May 2013 to his death in November 2021 and Gadek from March 2004 to May 2013. He was a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition and also the Alor Gajah UMNO chief.

Norhizam bin Hassan Baktee is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of the Malacca State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Barisan Nasional (BN) state administration under Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali from March 2020 to his resignation in October 2021 and in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state administration under former Chief Minister Adly Zahari from May 2018 to the collapse of the PH state administration in March 2020. He also served as Member of the Malacca State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Pengkalan Batu from May 2018 to November 2021. He is now an independent aligned with the ruling BN coalition. He was previously a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition coalition. He is also informally known by his nicknames such as Hulk or Gangster, for his temperamental mood and fondness of wearing body-fit shirts.

2021 Malacca state election Election in Malaysia

The 2021 Malacca state election, formally the 15th Malacca state election, took place on 20 November 2021. This election was to elect 28 members of the 15th Malacca State Legislative Assembly. The previous assembly was dissolved on 4 October 2021.

Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar is a Malaysian politician, host, director and former actress who has served as Deputy Speaker of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly since December 2021 and Member of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Rim since November 2021. She is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. She is also popularly known by her screen name namely Dira. She is the daughter of the 8th and former Chief Minister of Melaka, Abu Zahar Ithnin.
