Mike McMahan (born 1981) is an American comedy writer and television producer. He is the creator of the animated comedies Solar Opposites (with Justin Roiland) and Star Trek: Lower Decks .
McMahan, a native of Chicago, first worked in production as an assistant at The Second City. From there, he was hired by Scott Rudin Productions as a production assistant, and worked on Drawn Together and South Park . [1] [2]
McMahan served as a writer and producer on Rick and Morty . He was one of the first writers hired for the series, as he had met co-creator Justin Roiland while working at 20th Century Fox Animation. McMahan described himself as "kind of the sci-fi guy" of the staff, and was promoted to showrunner for the show's fourth season, though he left during production to work on other projects. [3] [4] In 2018, he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program for his work as a supervising producer on the episode "Pickle Rick". [5] He left the series shortly afterwards.
On August 28, 2018, Hulu announced it had ordered an animated comedy Solar Opposites created by McMahan and Roiland. The series premiered on May 8, 2020. [6] [7] In October 2018, McMahan was announced as the creator of Star Trek: Lower Decks for CBS All Access. [8] More recently, he signed an overall deal with CBS Studios. [9]
Daniel James Harmon is an American screenwriter and producer. He is best known as the creator and producer of the NBC and Yahoo! Screen sitcom Community (2009–2015), creator and host of the comedy podcast Harmontown (2012–2019), co-creator of the Adult Swim animated sitcom Rick and Morty (2013–present) and its subsequent franchise along with Justin Roiland, and co-founder of the alternative television network and website Channel 101 along with Rob Schrab.
Mark Justin Roiland is an American voice actor, animator, writer, producer, and director. He is best known as the co-creator of Adult Swim's animated sitcom Rick and Morty, for which he voiced the protagonists Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith from 2013–2022, and as the co-creator of Hulu's Solar Opposites, in which he formerly voiced the main character, Korvo, until both networks severed ties with him in 2023. He had also voiced Earl of Lemongrab in Adventure Time, Blendin Blandin in Gravity Falls, and Oscar in Fish Hooks. He founded the animation studio Justin Roiland's Solo Vanity Card Productions! and the video game studio Squanch Games, though he resigned from the latter in 2023.
Rick and Morty is an American adult animated science fiction sitcom created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Cartoon Network's nighttime programming block Adult Swim. The series follows the misadventures of Rick Sanchez, a cynical mad scientist, and his good-hearted but fretful grandson Morty Smith, who split their time between domestic life and interdimensional adventures that take place across an infinite number of realities, often traveling to other planets and dimensions through portals and on Rick's flying saucer. Envisioned as a comedy game, the title features an optional virtual reality component.
