  2. All of LIU's NIT titles were won by the school's Brooklyn campus, branded athletically as "Long Island" through 2012–13 and later as "LIU Brooklyn". After the 2018–19 season, Long Island University merged the Brooklyn athletic program and the NCAA Division II program of its Post campus, creating a new D-I program that now competes as the LIU Sharks. The merged program inherited the Division I membership, history, and records of the Brooklyn program.

The NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament, sometimes known as the College Cup, is an American intercollegiate soccer tournament conducted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and determines the Division I men's national champion. The tournament has been formally held since 1959, when it was an eight-team tournament. Since then, the tournament has expanded to 48 teams, in which every Division I conference tournament champion is allocated a berth. Among the most successful programs, Saint Louis won 10 titles during dynasty years between 1959 and 1973. Indiana has won 8 titles beginning in 1982, whereas Virginia has won 7 titles beginning in 1989. Syracuse won its first national title in its first appearance in 2022.

The Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level. Member institutions are located in the northeastern United States in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont. It is the only Division II collegiate hockey conference in the United States.

The Northeast Conference baseball tournament is the conference baseball championship of the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference. The top four finishers in the regular season of the conference's seven teams advance to the double elimination tournament. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.

The LIU Post Pioneers were the athletic teams that represented the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, located in Brookville, New York, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports through the 2018–19 school year. The Pioneers most recently competed as members of the East Coast Conference for most sports; the football team was an affiliate of the Northeast-10 Conference. LIU Post had been a member of the ECC since 1989, when the league was established as the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Northeast Conference (NEC). The Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Coach of the Year is a basketball award given to head coaches in the Northeast Conference (NEC). The award was first given following the 1982–83 season, the second year of the conference's existence, to Matt Furjanic of Robert Morris.

The LIU Sharks men's basketball team represents Long Island University in NCAA Division I basketball competition. They play their home games at their Brooklyn Campus in the Steinberg Wellness Center and Barclays Center, formerly known as the Wellness, Recreation & Athletics Center, and are members of the Northeast Conference. Their current head coach is Rod Strickland who was hired in June 2022.

The LIU Sharks are the athletics teams representing Long Island University's (LIU) campuses in Brooklyn and Brookville, New York. The Sharks compete in NCAA Division I athletics and are members of the Northeast Conference. The LIU Sharks are the result of the July 1, 2019 unification of the athletic departments which had previously represented two separate campuses of LIU, the NCAA Division I LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds and the NCAA Division II LIU Post Pioneers.
