The National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT) is a parastatal under Nigeria Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. It is located in Basawa, Zaria, Kaduna State. [1]

The institute presently has four research departments involved in renewable energy research, catalysis, and treatment of industrial effluent waste. [2]

Analytical equipment and laboratories

NARICT's laboratories contain analytical equipment such as GCMS, AAS, LCMS, BET surface area analyzer, DTGA, SEM, FTIR and HPLC to name a few.[ citation needed ]

Leadership

The Current Director General/CEO of the institute is Professor Jeff Barminas. Formally resuming office on 27 May 2017. [3]

He served as the vice chancellor of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai from 2009 until November 2019. He is currently the Emeritus Professor of Eminence at ICT Mumbai.

Amar Nath Bhaduri (1935–2003) was an Indian molecular enzymologist and chemical biologist, known for his studies on UDP-glucose 4-epimerase, a homodimeric epimerase found in cells and his work on Leishmania donovani, the protozoal pathogen for Kala-azar. He was the director of the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Kolkata and an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy and the Indian Academy of Sciences. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, in 1978, for his contributions to biological sciences.

Murali Sastry is an Indian material chemist, nanomaterial scientist and the chief executive officer of IITB-Monash Research Academy. He is a former chief scientist and Tata Chemicals and a former senior scientist at National Chemical Laboratory. He is known for his studies on surfaces, films and materials chemistry and is an elected fellow of Maharashtra Academy of Sciences and the Indian Academy of Sciences The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, in 2002, for his contributions to chemical sciences.

Devang Vipin Khakhar is an Indian chemical engineer and the former director of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. He is known for his pioneering researches on polymerization and is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies viz. Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy and National Academy of Sciences, India as well as Indian National Academy of Engineering. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards for his contributions to Engineering Sciences in 1997.
