NewsON is a local news service that enables users to see live and on demand local news broadcasts and video clips from TV stations across the United States in one app. As of February 2021, NewsON includes over 275 TV stations from over 160 markets covering more than 75% of the US population. [1] [2]

The app is available on mobile phones, tablets and connected TVs, including iPhones, iPads, Android phones, Android tablets, Roku connected TV devices, Fire TV [3] and Apple TV. [4] NewsON also offers a web streaming site. [5]

NewsON was announced on June 9, 2015, as a venture formed by five of the largest TV station groups in the United States. [6] The founding members are ABC Owned Television Stations, Cox Media Group, Hearst Television, Media General, and Raycom Media. Hubbard Broadcasting announced its participation as an investor in November 2015, and Sinclair Broadcast Group announced their investment in January 2016.

Current participating station groups are Berkshire Hathaway, Block Communications, Capitol Broadcasting Company, CBS News and Stations, Cowles Company, Cox Media Group, the E. W. Scripps Company, Fort Myers Broadcasting Company, Forum Communications, Hearst Television, Heritage Broadcasting Company, Hubbard Broadcasting, Morgan Murphy Media, Paxton Media Group, Sinclair Broadcast Group and Tegna Inc. The company launched service to the public on November 4, 2015 on iOS, Android, and Roku. [10] Viewers can share what they’ve seen on social platforms such as Facebook or Twitter. [11]

On January 1, 2020, ABC Owned Television Station Group removed their eight stations from the service. [12]

In fall of 2021, Gray Television removed their stations from NewsON in favor of VUit. [13]

iHeartRadio is an American freemium broadcast, podcast and radio streaming platform owned by iHeartMedia. It was founded in August 2008. As of 2019, iHeartRadio was functioning as the national umbrella brand for iHeartMedia's radio network, the largest radio broadcaster in the United States with 128 million registered users as of 2019. Its main competitors are Audacy, TuneIn and Sirius XM.

HBO Go is an authenticated video on demand of the pay television service HBO. The service allowed subscribers to HBO via television providers to access its programming on-demand via the HBO website, mobile apps, and digital media players among other devices.

Audacy, previously known as Radio.com, is a free broadcast and Internet radio platform developed by the namesake company Audacy, Inc.. The Audacy platform functions as a music recommender system and is the national umbrella brand for the company's radio network aggregating its over 235 local radio stations across the United States. In addition, the service includes thousands of podcasts created for the platform, hosted elsewhere or station programming on demand. PlayStation Vue was an American streaming television service that was owned by the Sony Interactive Entertainment subdivision of the Sony Corporation of America division of Sony. Launched with a limited major-market rollout on March 18, 2015, the service – which was structured in the style of a multichannel video programming distributor – combined live TV, on-demand video, and cloud-based DVR to stream television programs, movies, and sporting events directly to a PlayStation console or other supported device – including smart TVs, digital media players and apps – without a subscription to a cable or satellite television provider. Targeting cord cutters, PlayStation Vue was designed to complement subscription video-on-demand services. As of August 26, 2018, the service had approximately 745,000 subscribers. On October 29, 2019, Sony announced PlayStation Vue would be ending service on January 30, 2020, because "the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected".
