The Nigeria Rugby League is the governing body of the sport of rugby league football in Nigeria.

History

The Nigeria Rugby League Association were first founded in 2018 by former professional rugby league footballer, Ade Adebisi who is the Vice President and General Manager and chairman Abiodun Olawale-Cole. Nigeria Rugby League were granted observer membership of the Rugby League European Federation, replacing the old inactive and defunct Nigerian Rugby League governing body. [1]

National League

The inaugural season will be contested in 2019 with a number of clubs having partnerships with professional Super League clubs. [2]

MEA Championship Lagos Nigeria 2019 (Host - Nigeria)

Nigeria’s Green Hawks beat Morocco to win the 2019 Middle East Africa (MEA) Championship on Saturday 5 October at the TBS Cricket Oval in Lagos.The Green Hawks cheered by a boisterous home crowd and watched by the chair of Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) Graeme Thompson, proved too strong for the North Africans as they triumphed 38-10 in what was only their second game on the international Rugby League scene. They had defeated West African rivals Ghana on their international Rugby League debut on Wednesday to make the finals while the Atlas Lions of Morocco beat Morocco on their way to the final.

In the third place encounter between Ghana and Cameroon, it was Ghana who carried the day with a 10-4 victory over Cameroon who finished the championship without a win.

The Nigeria national football team represents Nigeria in men's international football. Nicknamed as the Super Eagles it is governed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The 2000 African Cup of Nations was the 22nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the association football championship of Africa (CAF). It was co-hosted by Ghana and Nigeria, who jointly replaced Zimbabwe as host. Just like in 1998, the field of sixteen teams was split into four groups of four.

Rugby League European Federation

The Rugby League European Federation (RLEF) is the umbrella body for nations playing the sport of rugby league football across Europe and the Northern Hemisphere. It supports the Rugby League International Federation (RLIF). The RLEF "oversees and co-ordinates the development of the sport in all its member countries and those neighbouring organisations that choose to link to the RLEF". The RLEF operates several competitions, most notably the European Cup.

Enyimba International F.C. Association football club in Nigeria

Enyimba International Football Club or simply known as Enyimba, is a Nigerian football (soccer) club based in the city of Aba which plays in the Nigerian Professional Football League. Their name means People's Elephant in Igbo language and is also the nickname used for the city of Aba. Ubong Friday Nigerian footballer

The 2019 Middle East-Africa Rugby League Championship will be the second MEA Championship. The competition will be held in October 2019 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria. The competition will see the international debut of Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria, while Morocco will be playing for the first time since the last MEA Championship, eight years ago.

Cameroon national rugby league team

The Cameroon national rugby league team represent Cameroon in international rugby league football competition. They made their debut in the 2019 Middle East Africa Championship with a 4-8 loss to Morocco.

The 2020 Middle East-Africa Rugby League Championship will be the third MEA Championship, following the 2015 and 2019 tournaments. The competition will be held in October 2020 at the Tuks Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa. The competition will see the return of Nigeria and Morocco from the 2019 edition, whilst Lebanon and South Africa who both participated in the 2015 edition will again feature in the tournament. The Rugby League European Federation (RLEF) has announced that the tournament will continue henceforth on a two-year cycle, with the fourth tournament planned for 2022.

The Middle East-Africa Rugby League Championship (MEA) is a rugby league football competition for national teams from the Middle East and Africa which is organised by the Rugby League European Federation. The first tournament was held in 2015 as a part of the qualification process for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, and was followed by tournaments in 2019 and 2020 with an expanded structure.
