The Nigerian National Assembly delegation from Plateau comprises three Senators representing Plateau South, Plateau Central, and Plateau North, and eight Representatives representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom, Jos North/Bassa, Jos South/Jos East, Langtang North/Langtang South, Mangu/Bokkos, Mikang/Shendam/Qua'an-Pan, Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam and Wase. Prior to the evolution of the Fourth Nigerian Republic, there existed the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Republics respectively before it. In the Third Nigerian Republic, there were the senatorial districts of Plateau North, Plateau East and Plateau West. The House of Representatives constituencies consisted of the individual Local Government Areas of the state qualified at that time as Federal constituencies.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Plateau State</span> State of Nigeria

Plateau State is the twelfth largest Nigerian state. It is located near the centre of Nigeria and includes a range of hills surrounding the Jos Plateau, its capital, and the entire plateau itself. Plateau State is described as "The Home of Peace and Tourism". With natural formations of rocks, hills and waterfalls, it derives its name from the Jos Plateau and has a population of around 4.7 million people.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Local government areas of Nigeria</span> Third-level administrative division of Nigeria

Nigeria has 774 local government areas (LGAs), each administered by a local government council consisting of a chairman, who is the chief executive, and other elected members, who are referred to as councillors. Each LGA is further subdivided into a minimum of ten and a maximum of twenty wards. A ward is administered to by a councillor, who reports directly to the LGA chairman. The councillors fall under the legislative arm of the local government, the third tier of government in Nigeria, below the state governments and the federal government.

The Berom is one of the largest autochthonous ethnic group in Plateau State, central Nigeria. Covering about four local government areas, which include Jos North, Jos South, Barkin Ladi (Gwol) and Riyom. Berom people are also found in some southern Kaduna State local government areas like Fadan Karshe with Berom settlers tracing their origins to Za'ang (Zawan) a Berom district on the Jos Plateau. They emigrated during the British Colonial Government of Nigeria. A large number of this tribe, if not all, are Christians. Statistics also have it that a large number of the population of Plateau State is made up of Berom people.

Gyang Dalyop Dantong was a Nigerian senator who represented the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State. He became a member of the Nigerian Senate in 2007. On 12 April 2003, he was elected to the 5th House of Representatives on the platform of the ANPP defeating his closest rival James Vwi of the PDP. He represented Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency from 2003 to 2007. Dantong died on 8 July 2012 while attending a mass funeral of people who had been killed by Fulani herdsmen in Maase area of Riyom local government in Plateau State. The people at the funeral were attacked by gunmen thought to also be Fulani.

Riyom is a Local Government Area in Plateau State, Nigeria. It was carved out of the old Barkin Ladi Local Government Area on 1 October 1996 by the government of General Sani Abacha. It is headquartered in the town of Riyom to the north of the area at 9°38′00″N8°46′00″E.

Kanke is a Local Government Area in Plateau State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is in the town of Kwal.

Shendam is a Local Government Area in Plateau State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Shendam. It is bordered by Ibi Taraba State to the south, Qua'an Pan to the east, Pankshin to the north, and Mikang to the west. Shendam town is the second most populous town in Plateau State, after Jos town at 8°53′00″N9°32′00″E.

John David Dungs was a Nigerian Army colonel who served as Military Administrator of Delta State from August 1996 until August 1998 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha. He had also served as acting Military Administrator of Oyo State from 1994 to 1996.

Berom or Birom is the most widely spoken Plateau language in Nigeria. The language is locally numerically important and is consistently spoken by Berom of all ages in rural areas. However, the Berom are shifting to Hausa in cities. The small Cen and Nincut dialects may be separate languages. Approximately 1 million (2010) people speak in this language.

Gyang Nyam Shom Pwajok was a Nigerian politician and a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Pwajok was the youngest national Senator during the upper chamber's 7th Assembly, which was in session from 2011 to 2015. He was the 2015 PDP candidate for Governor of Plateau State, but narrowly lost the Plateau gubernatorial election to Simon Lalong of the All Progressives Congress on April 11, 2015.

Istifanus Gyang is a Nigerian senator who is representing Plateau North Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly. He is an indigene of Plateau state.

Plateau North senatorial district in Plateau State covers six local government areas, namely Barkin-Ladi, Bassa, Jos East, Jos North, Jos South, and Riyom. Plateau North is currently represented in the Senate by Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang of the Action Democratic Party, ADP.

Plateau Central senatorial district in Plateau State in Nigeria covers five local government areas which consists Bokkos, Mangu, Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam. The headquarters of this senate district is Panskhin. Plateau Central is currently represented in the Senate by Diket Plang of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Plateau South senatorial district covers six local governments namely, Langtang North, Langtang South, Mikang, Qua’anpan, Shendam, and Wase.

The 2023 Plateau State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Plateau State, concurrent with elections to the Plateau State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Simon Lalong is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.

The 2019 Nigerian House of Representatives elections in Plateau State was held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the House of Representatives to represent Plateau State, Nigeria.

The 2019 Plateau State House of Assembly election was held on March 9, 2019, to elect members of the Plateau State House of Assembly in Nigeria. All the 24 seats were up for election in the Plateau State House of Assembly.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Nigerian presidential election in Plateau State</span>

The 2023 Nigerian presidential election in Plateau State will be held on 25 February 2023 as part of the nationwide 2023 Nigerian presidential election to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria. Other federal elections, including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, will also be held on the same date while state elections will be held two weeks afterward on 11 March.

The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Plateau State will be held on 25 February 2023, to elect the 3 federal Senators from Plateau State, one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.

Isaac Kyale Kwallu is a Nigerian business man and politician. He is a member of the Nigerian Federal House of Representatives representing Mikang/Qua’an-Pan/Shendam federal constituency of Plateau State in the 10th National Assembly.
