Om Bikram Rana is the 19th IGP of Nepal. In September, 2006, he was appointed Inspector General of Nepal Police, the highest police rank of Nepal Police. He was preceded by Shyam Bhakta Thapa as the police chief and was succeeded by Hem Bahadur Gurung. His term had begun in September 18, 2006 and had ended in September 2008. [1] [2]

He was sentenced to two years in prison for corruption by the Supreme Court in the Sudan Armoured Police Carrier Carrier scam. [3]

Dil Bahadur Lama , popularly known as DB Lama was a leader of Nepali Congress (Democratic) and former Inspector General of Nepal Police. He was elected to the Pratinidhi Sabha in the 1999 election on behalf of the Nepali Congress. In 2001, he was included as an Assistant Minister of General Administration in Sher Bahadur Deuba's expanded cabinet. Nepal Police

Nepal Police is the national and primary law enforcement agency of Nepal. It is primarily responsible for maintaining law and order, prevention of crime and crime investigation within the jurisdiction determined by the Constitution of Nepal. Apart from its primary role, Nepal Police conducts a vast array of duties such as VIP protection, Security of Vital Installations, Traffic management, Secret services, Intelligence collection, Riot Control, Disaster management, Hostage rescue and various other Ceremonial roles. Nepal Police is currently led by Inspector General of Police Shailesh Thapa Chhetri since 7 July 2020. He is the 28th IGP of Nepal Police.

Hem Bahadur Gurung was the 20th IGP of Nepal. On September 14, 2008, he was appointed Inspector General of Nepal Police, the highest police rank of Nepal Police. He was preceded by Om Bikram Rana and was succeeded by Ramesh Chand Thakuri as the police chief. His term had begun on September 18, 2008 and had ended in February 2009.

Khadgajeet BaralOGDB, OTSP was a Nepalese politician and social worker. After serving as the Inspector General of Nepal Police he also served as the Ambassador of Nepal to Burma, Indonesia and French Indochina , as a Chief Liaison Officer of the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC), and also as a Member of Parliament (MP) of Nepal.

Inspector-general of police

An Inspector General of Police is a senior police officer in the police force or police service of several nations. The rank usually refers to the head of a large regional command within a police service, and in many countries refers to the most senior officer of the entire national police.

Hon.Rabindra Pratap Shah was, as of 2012, Inspector General of Nepal Police of the Nepal Police. On 2 June 2011, he assumed the duties of the chief of Nepal Police, after succeeding Ramesh Chand Thakuri. Shah was born in Maidi in the Dhading District, and graduated from Tribhuvan University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Kuber Singh Rana was the Inspector General of the Nepal Police. He was promoted to the Inspector General of Police by the government of Nepal after succeeding Rabindra Pratap Shah as the police chief on September 13, 2012. He joined Nepal Police on 16 November 1983 as Police Inspector.

Durlav Kumar Thapa

Durlav Kumar Thapa is a retired police chief of Nepal Police. He is a highly decorated police officer whose contributions to the then National Police Training Academy. In 2013 he was awarded the Nepal Police’s Lifetime Achievement award at the Sadar Prahari Talim Kendra. During his tenure as I.G.P., he had introduced "Tourist police" and the IGP Residence. He now lives a retired life in Patan.

Rom Bahadur Thapa is the first Inspector General of Nepal Police from the Magar ethnic group. Before joining the Nepal Police, he had been a Physical Training Instructor at the Military Academy in Burma (Myanmar). He had a reputation as a great war hero before joining Nepal Police. He was awarded the Burma Gallantry Medal for his heroic actions during World War II.

Moti Lal Bohora was the chief of Nepal Police from 1993-1997. He succeeded Ratna Shumsher J.B.R. as the police chief and was succeeded by Achyut Krishna Kharel.

Achyut Krishna Kharel was the chief of Nepal Police during the Maoist's Insurgency.

Pahal Singh Lama was the chief of Nepal Police in the mid 1960s. He is well known for his contribution in establishment of the Mahendra Police Club in 1966 A.D. with the help of the then S.P. Khadgajeet Baral, Harka Bahadur Thapa and the then DIGP Rom Bahadur Thapa, during his tenure as IGP.
Pahal Singh Lama had been appointed Consul General (1967-1971) of Calcutta, India by His Majesty's Government after his retirement from Nepal Police.

R Sri Kumar is a vigilance commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission, India. He assumed the role on September 8, 2010.

Upendra Kant Aryal is 25th Chief of Nepal Police. He was appointed as the Chief of Nepal Police after succeeding Kuber Singh Rana on 16 November 2013 by the cabinet decision made on 11 November 2013. With this decision, he is also the Head of the National Central Bureau (NCB), Kathmandu, INTERPOL.

Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan had been the chief of Nepal Police during the Maoist's Insurgency.

Ramesh Chand Thakuri is the 21st IGP of Nepal Police, charged and convicted of Sudan Scam. Thakuri was succeeded by Rabindra Pratap Shah in early June, 2012. Former IGP Thakuri was sent to jail in early 2009 after he failed to furnish a Rs 7 million bail in a Rs 280 million Darfur, Sudan scam. A bench of a special court sent him to hail on charge leveled by Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) for the scam in purchase of armored personnel carriers and logistics for Nepal Police peacekeepers with U.N. in the African state.

Pradip Shumsher J.B.R. is a former chief of Nepal Police, who served as the IGP from September 1999 to December 2001. He was preceded by Achyut Krishna Kharel and was succeeded by Shyam Bhakta Thapa as the police chief. During his tenure as police chief, he had introduced Mahendra Police Swimming Complex, which cost a budget of Rs. 7 crores. The Royal Palace Massacre (2001) had also occurred during his tenure as police chief. His son, Deep Shumsher J.B.R. is currently the Superintendent of Police.

Shyam Bhakta Thapa is the 18th IGP of Nepal and the last police officer of Nepal Police to serve as the police chief during the Maoists Insurgency. He was preceded by Pradip Shumsher J.B.R. as the police chief and was succeeded by Om Bikram Rana. He had been the police chief during the Peoples Movement II.

Sarbendra Khanal is 26th Chief of Nepal Police. He was appointed as the Chief of Nepal Police after succeeding Prakash Aryal on 10 April 2018 by the cabinet decision of the Government of Nepal. He was former spokesperson of Nepal Police. Khanal as SSP of Nepal Police and in charge of Metropolitan Police Crime Division, has led the encounter of notorious gangster Kumar Ghainte and solved the football match fixing case. In the football match fixing case, he along with junior officer Inspector Sudip Raj Pathak, had led to the investigation of match fixing scandal in the Nepal national football team and found four players - Bikash Singh Chhetri, Anjan KC, Ritesh Thapa and then team Captain Sagar Thapa as guilty. AFC General Secretary Dato Windsor John also welcomed Sarbendra Khanal along with Sudip Raj Pathak to the AFC House at Kuala Lampur and quoted as:

It is an honor to welcome Deputy Inspector General Sarbendra Khanal and Deputy Superintendent of Nepal Police Sudip Raj Pathak to the AFC House. They were instrumental in investigation of important match fixing cases in Nepal in 2015.

James Oppong-Boanuh is a Ghanaian lawyer and police officer. He was appointed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Ghana Police Service by President Nana Akufo-Addo in October 2019. Prior to being appointed as IGP, Oppong-Boanuh served in different command and staff positions including Aide-de-camp to the IGP, Chief Staff Officer to the IGP; Director-General of Welfare, Director-General of Human Resources; Regional Commander, Director-General of Legal and Prosecutions, Director-General of Administration and Deputy IGP.
